From Ten Minutes Away To Fifteen Minutes Away.

A ten minute walk from home became a fifteen minute walk from home. The steps outward, tentative.  Each step, delicate, unsure, nervous yet inspired with the knowledge of a further adventure. The pathway beckoned downward.   A beckoning for another day.  Just to the right, a hidden route, obscured by overgrowth.  I headed right,  An eager dog scurried ahead.
An open field of golden grass filled my eyes with hopeful vision.
Houses in the solitude.  Rolling hills in the background.
We circled around and backtracked to the left, to the west, to view the north.  And to the north, two picture views of The Roaches.  Rocky ridges of such contrast with the surrounding countryside.
Continuing back westward.  See how the greenery has become more pronounced.

Even more greenery.

A couple more panoramic views as we continue back westward.  Can you see the wind mill on yonder hill?
We are nearly back to that original pathway.  An adventure that lasted two hours.  Two hours in my progress of getting back out there as I battle with ongoing exhaustion.
Spot, the dog.  No, not a dog named, Spot.  Spot the dog?  Yep, somewhere in there is Penny the Jack Russell dog and modest internet superstar!  Can you spot the dog?

  1. Beautiful photos, Gary! And what delightful scenery to enjoy. I'm so glad you were able to get out for awhile, breathe the fresh air, feel the sunshine, and soak up all that natural beauty. Get well, my friend! (Bet Penny was in 7th heaven out there!)

  2. Hi Kim,

Thank you for your kind words. I like clicking on my photos to make them even bigger. It was so good to get out there with Penny. She had a great time and we didn't even see any "puparazzi" would just love to hound her.

    Photo wishes, your way,

      Take care, River.

Hi Gary - good to read this ... and to know you are improving, albeit understandably slowly .. it'll be lovely when Spring proper is here and then the warmth comes in ... but it's lovely to see the trees bursting forth and to see the hedgerows filling out ... beautiful countryside ... take care and with thoughts - Hilary

I appreciate your thoughtful comment, my kind friend. I do sense a feeling of optimism in the renewal that spring can bring. I knew I had to attempt to get out there and immerse myself in the great outdoors, a sense of klahanie was realised.

Be well and enjoy the rest of the May Day long weekend.

You live in a stunning location, Gary. You and Penny need to do more walks like that. I bet it did both of you some good.

    1. Hi Alex,

Aha, it was you going around and putting spots on the dog and the windmill!

It most certainly is a stunning location. The scenery, I'm hoping, stuns me into getting out of the humdrum feeling. Penny, while avoiding her loyal fans, took me for a nice walk and more are on the way.

I can come out to play again! The alphabet abyss is ending. Then again, there is your eleven months of reflection posts! HELP!!!

Cheers, dude and enjoy the rest of your weekend.

    1. Hi Truedessa,

Ah yes and the highland pathway has the occasional pothole. Yet, we climb out and continue on with a smile in our hearts, one step at a time.

In peace and love, your way,

      Gary :)

    1. Hi Diane,

The countryside just a gentle stroll from my home, is calling my name.

      Thank you, my kind friend.

  57. Beautiful photos of a place where I wouldn't mind being right now as I listen to the traffic passing outside my window. That first photo of the pathway is especially to my liking--so inviting. That would make for an attractive poster size print.

And yes, I spotted Penny in the center of the photo. And also the lone windmill on the hill. Not like the wind farms between where I live and Palm Springs where there must be hundreds of those windmills.

    1. Hi Lee,

I'm glad you like the photos. It's so nice that I can just go outside and be right there amongst the enticing English countryside. I hardly ever hear traffic outside my window. Mostly the rustling of breeze through the trees and the gentle roar of a creek.

Penny is happy you spotted her. Nice going noticing the windmill. We also have loads of wind farms. They seem to be all over the place these days.

      Cheers, Lee.

It most certainly is. I'm trying my best to focus on all that is good. I think part of my fatigue is an underlying psychological issue.

My honour to be your cheerleader, my lovely friend. Give us a "Y!"......

    1. Hi Elizabeth,

Nicely spotted, my dear friend. Nothing like a bunch of polka dots :)

Glad you liked the photos. Indeed, time to reflect and take in the great outdoors.

The energy levels are getting better. Not exactly the Eveready bunny, but I'm getting there. You are very kind and your goodness comes across, dear Elizabeth.

  62. Penny love the walk. Glad you got out there. It's a feast for eyes and the senses. I love the look of the roaches--rich purple set in all that lovely green. Thanksfor taking me with you on your walk.

Glad you got out there. Places like this...the scents, sounds, and visuals are a feast for the senses. They recharge you and bring peace. Something we all need in these days. I have problems with crowds of people--not severe--but there are times going anywhere is...hard. Getting out my front door is hard. I live in the country so these sort of walks help me tremendously. Restores my peace and I love the solitude. :-)

    1. Hi Sia,

Lovely to see you here, my kind friend. Penny and I loved the walk. We are both delighted you could stroll along and see the contrast in the local scenery. Seeing The Roaches for the first time is quite the eye-opener.

Bless you, kind friend. The ideals of being alone and yet, not alone amongst the wonders of nature can rejuvenate the heart, the mind, the soul, the overall well being. You do well in challenging yourself. The duvet or doorway dilemma. Yet, you are drawn to being out there and that's a cause for celebration. Kudos and respect to you, Sia.

  65. Hello Gary, I read your previous post and was worried about you, so I’m really happy to see you are getting out and about. Your photos make me want to walk along those paths. I want to go around the next corner and down the next hill (not sure about getting back up again!) but I want to see all there is to see. I was given a short, sharp shock a few weeks ago – walk now or risk not walking at all. It was the kick I needed, and now I'm passing that kick on to you - keep on keeping on Gary; it's all we can do.

Yes, I can see the windmill on yonder hill but would not have spotted it had you not pointed it out. Penny the Jack Russell dog and modest internet superstar, on the other hand, is easy to spot. Hugs Barbara

    1. Hi Barbara,

Thank you for your concern, my thoughtful friend. The journey along that pathway and challenging myself to get out there, will pay positive dividends. I have to make it so. You most certainly have had the incentive, the catalyst to keep on moving on. Thanks for that kick. I need a few good kicks and maybe one up my butt :)

The yonder solitary windmill standing upon that hill. Penny is most assuredly, a spot the dog, kind of dog.

      Hugs, to you, Barbara.
