Leaps And Bounds.

I have found out that 2012 is a 'leap year'.   And so, it will be a good year for kangaroos, frogs, toads, gazelles, grasshoppers, spittlebugs and 'leaping lizards', our friend, the gecko.  Note the 'Jacket rabbit' getting ready for the leap year.
I do hope that 2012 has us improve our lives in leaps and bounds.  Maybe a leap into the great unknown, but a leap, nevertheless.  Yes indeed, a leap into action in the spirit of a leap year.   Just make sure you look before you leak, I mean leap.  So let's leap for joy and not leap to any conclusions that would prevent us from a leap forward in a positive way.
And what an ideal time for a quantum leap.  Or a mini quantum leap that is being practised on a group of islands in the South Pacific.  Take for instance, Samoa, which is going to skip December 30, 2011 and suddenly find itself fast-forwarded to December 31, 2011.  Imagine having your birthday on December 30 on Samoa and discovering, tough luck, your birthday has been cancelled.   If you have no idea what I'm talking about, perhaps this link might help: Samoa and Tokelau to skip a day for dateline change.
So, in the coming leap year, I will hop on buses, planes and trains.  I will think about all of those born or getting married on February 29 and wonder if they use February 28 or March 1 to mark their anniversaries in 2013.
And in 2012, Americans can say to you, 'have an extra nice day!'  I say to you have an extra nice Happy New Year.
And to finish off in the spirit of leap.  I recall those memorable words said the day they landed a man on the 'Nevada desert'.  "That's one small step for (a) man, one giant leap for mankind."

  1. Hoppy New Year to you Gary, and Penny too! Wishing you laughter and love each and every day of it.

  2. Leaping lizards, Gary! That's quite a leaper of a post you've put together here. I am particularly fond of the Jacket Rabbit. I think you've got the New Year coming up off to a leaping start . . .

  3. Love the Jacket Rabbit. Let's hope we look before we leap, too. A happy, healthy, prosperous New Year to you and yours, Gary. Use the extra day to do something extra special.

  4. This post is a tad "jumpy" Gary...I don't know if I will have enough energy/strength for all this leaping about but I will attempt a mental leap in your honour. (loving the jacket rabbit)

  5. ohhhh you ARE a clever one!! I just LOVE your play on the word "leap"...this is a first, unique, a keeper and one that I will remember!

HAPPY, HEALTHY NEW YEAR TO sure to take a few "leaps of faith" too!

  6. What a great post. It gives me a positive outlook for 2012.

Thanks Gary and Penny for the extra push (Leap) into the unknown.

Happy New Year to you and a wish for all of us to be glad we leaped.

    bErt and My Vickie

  7. Yes, time for the gals to propose to the guys too! LOL! Or something!

That Samoa and Tokelau thing is crazy - all because of trade rather than anything mystical or ethereal! Proves that we should not be constrained by time and so I vote for 4 day working week and 3 day weekends. Ahem.! LOL!

    Take care

  8. Aha! You can decide to jump into a new time zone!! Now I finally understand the expression, "Time is Relative".
Happy New Year Gary! I'm rolling into the new year giggling now, or since we are having an ice's more like sliding.

  9. The international dateline jump strikes me as funny -- and I'll bet a lot of people would've preferred they skipped a Monday!

  10. The daughter of a friend of mine is expecting a baby and has a due-date of 1st March. She is hoping the child will not be born the day before and only have a Birthday once every four years.
I hope you enjoy all 366 days of 2012!

  11. Thanks for reading my blog. I shall follow yours too. As of now, I find your entry for today very intersting, inspiring and informative at the same time. I did not have any idea about Samoa. One of my managers in my previous jobs had a birthday on Feb 29, however we threw her a party on the 28th except for the leap year. She had the advantage of reducing her age by three years between the leap years, bah.
    Jacket Rabbit is sooo cute!

  12. This was almost a leap into insanity. I loved it. What's the deal?
Ah well, leap it to you; such great humour :)

  13. But think about how many lucky Samoan fellows can say, "Hon, let's get married December 30th, or never!"

It wouldn't be so bad if you had a dentist appt for that day. That would be a leap in the right direction. Unless you were having teeth incised. Is there such a thing?

I've been sneezing all morning. Wonder if that's a leap toward sick?

Happy New Year, my fine young fellow. Hugs for Penny the Jack Russell and modest internet star. I need a macro for Penny's name.

  14. Hey, will we be reading posts penned by Bunny the Jacket Rabbit, modest internet star, in 2012? Just wonderin'...

That's really a cool bit of info about Samoa - didn't know! Did you hear about the possibility of ditching the leap seconds in 2012? That would be a lack of leap in a leap year, no?

Here's to leaps and bounds of good fortune, great health and happiness beyond your imagination, in the coming leapin' year!!

  15. Hope 2012 is everything you want it to be, Gary.

Sending love and best wishes to you, your son and, of course, the very lovely Penny.

  16. Ah Mustang Sally,
I wondered what happened to you. Now I see you have put up a posting and I really must 'thrill' you with one of my 'award winning' comments. I state, ever so modestly :)
Very good and a "Hoppy' New Year to you, my fabulous friend.
Kind wishes and an extra day, your way, Gary

  17. Hi Susan,
Leaping lizards and gleeful geckos :) And Jacket Rabbit wishes you 366 days of hoppiness in twenty twelve.
All the best to you and your loved ones,

  18. Hi Austan,
And the Jacket Rabbit hops we all look before we leak, um leap! :)
Thanks Laura and a hopful and healthy New Year to you.
Kind wishes and an extra day in February, your way, Gary

  19. Hey Delores,
A tad jumpy, indeed. And I wrote this posting while wearing a um..jumper. Might explains things.
Have a wonderful leap year, Delores.
In kindness, Jacket Rabbit and that human wearing a jumper, Gary :)

  20. Hi Cat Chat With Caren And Cody,
Ah Caren, or am I typing to Cody? Hmmm...anyway....Nothing like a play on words. I do so hope that this posting might give you the urge to find time next year to go to the International House Of Pancakes. Yes IHOP there for breakfast...
Ah yes, cause I such a 'great guy' I deliberately left "leaps of faith" out of the posting. And now I'm thinking about the movie, "Leap of Faith" starring Steve Martin. Yikes!
A most peaceful and positive New Year to you and your loved ones.
In kindness and leaps of faith, like a cat in a Christmas tree, your way, Gary :)

  21. Hey Bert and Vickie,
Thanks and on a serious note, I'm encouraged that this posting would give you a positive outlook for 2012 :)
And thank you both for your kind interaction. We can try to leap into the unknown with realistic positive anticipation.
And as we leap forward to the leap year, indeed, may all of us find our hearts leap with joy.
In kindness and respect, your way, Penny and that human, Gary :)

  22. Hi Old Kitty,
Oh yeah, thanks for reminding me. I'd better stay in hiding. Not sure I could take all those proposals from the lovely ladies. And then I woke up! :)
What? That Samoa and Tokelau thing
has nothing to do with a mini quantum leap or something real mystical or ethereal? Oh, I think weekends get in the way of work. Roll on Monday! :) LOL and take good care of yourself and Charlie.
Good grief, I thinking I'm typing, once again to a cat. What next? A dog that does articles on my site. Say it aint so!
    Hoppy Leap Year

  23. Happy New Year, Gary, and to Penny, too! I'm glad I bumped into your blog this last year. May all kinds of blessings magically appear at your feet, and I hope your son finds true happiness!

  24. Hey there it's THE SNEE,
Heck I leap from one time zone to another. Actually, I don't even know what time zone I'm in. "Time is Relative." I know that when a relative visits, time goes very, very sloooowly....:)
Hop you enjoy your slide into the New Year, Rebecca. If the lake is frozen, 'Ogopogo' is looking forward to a 'friendly' game of ice hockey with 'Champ'...
My very best wishes to you and your loved ones for the leap New Year.
    Gary :)

  25. Hi Pearl,
Ah yes, the international dateline. I phoned that number. And could I get a date? Well, they gave me February 29.
Me thinks you are right. A skip and a hop past Monday would have made more sense :)
Thanks Pearl and have an extra good next year. Kind wishes and an official Minnesota Wild ice hockey puck, your way, Gary

  26. Hi bazza,
Then again, they could save loads of money buying birthday gifts :)
Thanks, my good buddy and may you also enjoy 366 days of joy and hoppiness.

  27. Hi Munir,
A delight reading your blog and thank you kindly for commenting and linking into my shy, humble and unassuming site. Most appreciated.
And thank you for the very kind comment in regards to this posting.
And on Samoa, there are some folks a bit confused as to what happened to their birthday :)
Or, just to confuse her, on leap year, you might have had a birthday party for her on February 28 and February 29. That way, I guess she would be a year older than she actually is on leap year. Now, I'm confused. Must go and lie down in a darkened room :)
Jacket Rabbit, Penny the Jack Russell dog and modest internet star and my humble self, wish you a peaceful and Hoppy New Year.
    In kindness, Gary

  28. Hey Dixie,
Ah yes, insanity. In my case, no leap left. I'm already there :)
I remember that show 'Leap it to Beaver'. Thanks Dixie and I do so hop you have a New Year that makes your heart leap with a new found hoppiness :)
In kindness and peaceful wishes, Gary

  29. Hey Joylene,
Great idea! Unless the poor fellow asks in 2012 and discovers that December 30th has been reinstated.
Incised, yes according to my spell-check'it's a word and can have something to do with engraving. Just think, on another day, you go to the dentist and end up with a really neat engraving of a pony on your molar. Such 'wisdom' eh.
You might be leaping towards the 'flew', sorry flu and that's nothing to sneeze at. No wait, it's something to sneeze at! 'Ah choo!'...sorry, I hope I didn't leave anything on your computer screen.
And a Hoppy Leap Year, you very young lady, you. Penny TJRDAMIS sends back hugs to you and so does shy and humble I :) Oh great! Now Penny's sneezing! :)

  30. Hi Kim,
There is a possibility that Jacket Rabbit will be formulating a posting. His real name is 'Jack Bunny' and is forever young and plays the violin....He may title a posting 'Starsky and 'Hutch'
Yep and now Samoa is in the same day as New Zealand and that other country....oh yeah, Australia :)
Just a second....yes I did hear about the possibility of ditching leap seconds in 2012. Evidently, they are going to remove 86,400 seconds and thus, the leap year will no longer be a leap year and we end up having an actual 365 1/4 days a year from now on.
Thanks Kim and you are bound to leap into the New Year with a renewed positive energy and many hoppy thoughts. I do hop so :)

  31. Hi Suzanne,
Thank you, dear lady and I hop 2012 finds you leaping with joy over your writing exploits :)
Thank you for your loving wishes. And we send hopful and loving wishes for a wonderful leap year.
In kindness and respect, Penny, Tristan and the old dude, Gary

  32. Hey Nancy,
Thank you and I'm delighted we have leapt back and forth between our blogs :)
Very grateful for your kind thoughts for Penny, my son and myself. Here's wishing you a lovely New Year and that all your goals and dreams become that beautiful reality.
In kindness, your way, in the awesome Pacific North West, Gary

  33. Hi Y'all,

My Human's college roomy was a leap year baby and only celebrated every 4th year when the actual birthday fell.

Happy Leap Year! y'all! A very special leap year to Penny the Jack Russell Dog and modest Internet star!

    Y'all come by now,
    Hawk aka BrownDog

P.S. My Humans have promised a quiet snuggly one for to figure how a 100 lb dog "snuggles".

  34. And sometimes you just have to take a "leap of faith!" Hope 2012 is wonderful and full of love and positivity for you and Tristan and Penny. big hugs!!

  35. A very Happy New Year to you and yours, and of course the lovely Penny and modest internet star :)

  36. I didn't know it was a leap year and I didn't know about Samoa. Like you, I wonder what people do about 'missing days'!

Hope this year is a good one for you.

  37. Hi Y'all, Hawk,
So your human's college roomy is only around one quarter the age of your human, I guess :)
And a Happy Leap Year to you, Hawk. Heck, have some extra fun leaping up for the ball, y'all :) Penny the Jack Russell dog and modest internet star appreciates your kind words and wishes the same for you and your humans.
I would like to think a 100 lb dog snuggles, very carefully...
And good grief, I didn't get to reply to you until the actual New Year.
Take very good care and have fun.
    Gary and Penny :)

  38. Hey Heather,
And we sure do hope that leap of faith brings much inner peace to all of us.
Thank you for your kind words, Heather. It means a great deal. Big hugs to you and your loved ones, for a beautiful and 'Hopful' New Leap Year!

  39. Hi Wendy,
Here's truly hoping that this New Year brings you much joy and contentment.
Penny the Jack Russell dog and modest internet star and myself are sending you peaceful, pawsitive thoughts :)
    Stay strong, my friend.

  40. Hi BragonDorn,
Why thank you, friend. And with each dragon born, may you find the glowing fires of contentment :)

  41. Hi fairyhedgehog,
I didn't know it was a leap year until I was informed by one of our favourite 'cats'. Yep, 'Old Kitty' brought it to my attention :)
And missing days, might have been a few puzzled folks on Samoa.
I do so wish that you have a lovely New Year, complete with a bonus day :)

  42. One small step for modest internet star Penny and one giant leap for kind Gary ;O)
    Happy New Year

  43. Hey Madeleine,
Thank you very kindly. Penny leapt up at the sight of your comment :)
Hope you and your loved ones have a lovely leap year :)
We're off to the desert in Nevada...

  44. I checked out that link and find it interesting that they're skipping it for the sake of the tourist industry. By the way, you should be sure to 'leap' into a fancy shmancy men's clothing store and pick out a decent monkey suit for the big ol' End of The World party I'm hosting this year. No need to worry about entertainment plans. I made reservations for the following to come: Clown midgets, acrobats, people who milk bulls, hot cheerleaders and these freaks you'll find here-

It's a positive message you send in this fine posting about being positive about looking forward to the new year. Being negative never helps, does it?

Have an extra special Happy New Year and day, today or else. Your pal, Kelly.

    P.S. Take care!

  45. Hi Kelly,
Yes sir and I'm wondering how those who missed out on their December 30th birthday are reacting to the tourist industry situation.
Dude, I don't need no monkey suit. I'm already prepared for the big day. I suppose I have to work out time zones, flight arrangements to get to your "big ol' End of The World party" If I leave here on the morning of December 20th, I should get there just in time to see your 'big ol' End':)
And thanks for the warning in regards to who shall attend. How you managed to get all my neighbours was very thoughtful of you.
And this "acidcow"? I've heard it works for L.S.Dairies..
I like to think this is indeed a positive message. And to think we have that extra day before your 'big ol' party!
Thanks friend and I hop you and your loved ones have a hopful and Hoppy Leap New Year :)

  46. Hi Gary .. you leaped before I did and mentioned those Samoan Islands .. but love the descriptions .. animals' names are usually so appropriate and such fun ..

Are you hopping on planes again this year .. as it is now .. Happy New Year for all your leaping ..

Leap for joy is definitely for 2012 .. and keeping leaping positive in these times ..

I'm just-a-going to bound to your next post .. A very happy and peaceful year ahead .. with many thoughts - Hilary

  47. Hi Hilary,
Thank you for leaping backwards and kindly leaving a comment.
Ah yes, it must of be weird living in Samoa and going to bed on December 29 and waking up to December 31. Talk about sleeping in :)
You know, I should of mentioned, speaking of animals, a 'leap frog'.
Strange how we use the word 'hop' in regards to boarding a bus, a train or a plane. I think it would be fitting to fly on 'Virgin on the Ridiculous' airlines.
I'm 'hopping' that you and your loved ones have wonderful leap New Year. And speaking of leap, I can hardly wait for 'spring'....
I appreciate you taking the time to backtrack and comment on this posting. I'm bound to say that.
Cheers Hilary and all the best,

I do try to comment back to each commenter individually. However, I might have to shorten my replies or give a group thank you. That way, I can spend more time commenting on your blogs. Thank you and peace, my friend.
