Blogfest? You Jest?

Here is a list of blogfest ideas.  Of course, they probably wont happen because they don't involve the alphabet.

The "BlogPest BlogFest" : Yes, I suggested this in a previous posting.  Thanks to the overwhelming response to this idea, it has made me give it some serious thought.  Just imagine a wonderful blogfest where we did a posting on a blogger that aggravates us so much that we would much rather go to a Justin Bieber concert than continuing reading their crap. This blogfest, however, could seriously backfire as it brings loads of visits and new 'followers' to the blogger that aggravates us.

The "Drive-By Blogger Blogfest" : This would be a blogfest where you visit a site just the once and leave some comment that has nothing to do with the posting.  All you do is mention that you are now 'following' their blog. What you are really trying to do is get them to follow your blog so as to add to your blog 'followers'.

The "Blatant Self-Promoting, Self-Obsessed Blogfest" : Rather similar to the blogfest mentioned above.  What you do in this blogfest is demonstrate the fine art of self-promoting and being self-obsessed.  Here's an example sample of what you might write in such a blogfest :  "You must read my latest posting that ties in nicely with my other posting about the upcoming posting that tells you about my posting that I posted last month about how great my postings are!   You know, my blog is a very important place.  A meeting place where other lesser bloggers can come and note just how wonderful I am!"

The "Blogbuster Movie Blogfest" : For those of us who haven't actually had our exciting lives made into a blockbuster movie, we could do a fantasy posting about a must see film about ourselves.

The "New Kids on the Blog" blogfest : This one might actually work. Although still no mention of the alphabet.  This would be a blogfest bringing further awareness of new bloggers.  A sort of a big hello from this amazingly caring community.

The "Captain's Blog: Stardate 2013.2" blogfestThis would be blogfest for all those with this fascination for all things spaced out.  Make it so.

The "DogFest BlogFest" : This would be a blogfest where we show our appreciation for our doggy friends such as, oh I don't know, Penny the Jack Russell dog and modest internet superstar!

The "Cynical Blogfest" : This would be a blogfest about stating that blogfests are a way of drawing attention to the creators of blogfests and a darned good way to self-promote, plug their latest novel or try to sell you timeshare properties in fashionable Stoke on Trent.

The "Groundblog Day" blogfest : Wouldn't it be great for a blogfest?  This would be where we repeat the same paragraph, over and over again.  Yes indeed, a paragraph that repeats over and over and over...If you get what I mean?

Wouldn't it be great for a blogfest?  This would be where we repeat the same paragraph, over and over again.  Yes indeed, a paragraph that repeats over and over and over...If you get what I mean?

  5. I totally laughed out loud and changed my pants on several occasions! I will do all, but what about the dodgeballfest. The one where we end up cornering one follower and tell them how terrible they really are and we all take shots. Then at the end we shake hands and say good game, good game.

    1. Hi Tammy,

We assume you will be doing a laundry. I reckoned you would join in all of these blogfest ideas. What next, oh yes, somebody will come up with some alphabet challenge to bring the blogging community together and of course, nothing to do with bringing attention to themselves. Oops.... You set up the "dodgeballfest", Tammy. I'm sure it will attract a lot of interest and I'm a willing follower victim. I just hope the game doesn't go into sudden death overtime.

  15. I think there are a good many blogfests out there that have no other motive than the accumulation of followers...you are quite right (sadly) about that. I am somewhat terrified of accumulating a whole raft of followers. Such pressure to come up with something interesting on a regular basis.

    1. Hi Delores,

Surely that wouldn't be their aim. I cannot believe that somebody would set up a blogfest just to bring attention and more 'followers' to their site.

Actually, I have visited a number of sites with over a 1000 'followers' and zero comments. Wonder what that could possibly mean.

As for you, dear lady, you are always interesting to read. You should have loads of followers and lots of comments. No pressure, just have fun. Pretend all those followers on your site are anxiously awaiting your next posting. See, no pressure at all :)

  22. I love it when you do this. Funnily enough I was working on Herman Melville today, and some of his thoughts on a similar subject came up:

"And do you famous mortals, then, take no pleasure in hearing your bravos?"

"Much, my good lord; at least such famous mortals, so enamored of a clamorous notoriety, as to bravo for themselves, when none else will huzza; whose whole existence is an unintermitting consciousness of self; whose very persons stand erect and self-sufficient as their infallible index, the capital letter I; who relish and comprehend no reputation but what attaches to the carcass; who would as lief be renowned for a splendid mustache, as for a splendid drama: who know not how it was that a personage, to posterity so universally celebrated as the poet Vavona, ever passed through the crowd unobserved; who deride the very thunder for making such a noise in Mardi, and yet disdain to manifest itself to the eye."

All best to you, hope you're doing well :)

A most interesting quote and it was almost in English I could understand. I'm kidding, Herman is as poignant and relevant now as he was then. Um, have fun working on him :)

  26. Hi Gary,
Ah, the blogfest. I've never really been part of one of those, although I like your own ideas. Maybe you could have a "snogfest" as well, where you invite all your female admirers (sorry, followers) round for a nice cup of tea and a snog. I think it must be your witty banter that has so many women in thrall to you Gare, and I must say, after reading this post, I was quite overcome myself. In a strictly just friends, male, heterosexual sort of way, that is.

    1. Hi David,

Me neither, I might suggest that they are blatant self-promotion gimmicks, but not being, um cynical, I would never suggest that. I was considering the "snogfest" blogfest. Seriously I was. I used the word snog to rhyme with blog in a rhyming posting once. I didn't use it in this one because I realised that "snog" is a colloquialism of Britain. And you know, y'all, some might of got confused. However, I'm delighted you forwarded that blogfest suggestion. Maybe, just maybe, you might consider doing a blogfest that involves snogging. That way, you could share yourself with the blogging community in a real loving way, even more. Or you might think of it as blatant self-promotion. Nah....A man hug, your way, in a heterosexual sort of way!

      Cheers David, me old mucker!

    That's a 'Groundhog Day BlogFest'

Wouldn't it be great for a blogfest? This would be where we repeat the same paragraph, over and over again. Yes indeed, a paragraph that repeats over and over and over...If you get what I mean?

    But I digress...

The Blatant Self-Promoting, Self-Obsessed Blogfest sounds like the best out of all of them, really. those type bug me the most. I wish they create a can of blog spray to get rid of the hyped lil' suckers that usually offer little in substance but still want you to check them out while they put their name everywhere on the net.

This was a great post, dude. You made up some good ones. If you want a suggestion, I could give you the Boring-As-Hell BlogFest. This BlogFest would require all of us to visit a blog that definitely will not make you laugh, think or feel anything. You just go to it, read about somebody feeding their cat or dog, tell strangers that they ate a donut that morning and then watched TV until they went to bed. Everyone visiting this one shouldn't have trouble falling asleep.

Wait a second... that sounds kind of like Farcebook profile statuses, too. :) Take care, Gary and before I leave I just wanted to add...

I deleted your other comment completely. I appreciate you going to this much trouble what with you having the "man flu". Big respect to you.

Yes sir, we got back into the tongue-in-cheek, cynical, bordering on sarcastic type posting. And it's "GROUNDBLOG". See that, I was trying to be clever.

And there are certain blatant self-promoting, self-obsessed bloggers who very cleverly try to make out they actually care. Some will actually leave what appears to be a flattering comment that reeks of superficiality. What they really want you to do is check out their site and follow their blog. It's a very sad, insecure ego thing. I think we have to realise, like you realise, we are all different and all equal.

I was hoping you would leave a comment and add your own suggestions. You didn't disappoint, my friend. Often the "Boring-As-Hell BlogFest" types you allude to are often bloggers who do alleged comedy and folks tell them how funny they are, even if they realise the humour is actually crap. I never profess to be funny and I don't claim to be in that genre. Yet, some of those 'comedy' bloggers are, for lack of a better word, a 'joke'.

I'm now reading new 'friends' on Farcebook who have really important profile updates about their evening meal and seriously, they get 50 likes and 20 comments. Wow and yes, I go and take the 'p**s' out of them. In a very nice way, of course :)

Yes sir, we got back into the tongue-in-cheek, cynical, bordering on sarcastic type posting. And it's "GROUNDBLOG". See that, I was trying to be clever.

    1. Hi Jemi,

Glad you love the way my brain works. My last two brain cells are right confused! :) Of course, if we had a "Super Lovely Blogfest", yours would be right up there with the loveliest of them all! :)

Enjoy the rest of your weekend, Jemi.

    1. Hi John Gray,

The eloquence of the former Governor of 'Kaleefooornyah' is resonating in your excellent response.

And, because no blog is really a secret, you can look forward, with eager anticipation, another um award winning comment from me.

    1. Hi Misha,

And just my luck, you being a popular blogger, would get an overwhelming response to any blogfest ideas you 'stole' from me :)

And with that, I shall now go sob uncontrollably in a darkened room.....

I love blogfests that present a challenge to get my teeth into/ ideas to blog about.

    1. Hi Madeleine,

A "Lurkers Blogfest". Can imagine the total number of those participating would be zero :)

I love blogfests in so far as it give me the chance to satirise them :) I've heard there is a blogfest that celebrates the alphabet. Seriously? Hope you had a nice weekend and oops, its snowing.

    1. Hi Madeleine,

Very good. The lurkers might get into it so much that they discover their cyber closet is wide open and ready to take on the blogging world! :)

  39. You may be onto something with some of these. I actually like a few of these a lot. Then again, some bloggers are always participating in some of these--in their own minds at least and without thinking of them as blogfests.

    1. Hi Lee,

Thank you and perhaps you would like to use some of them. In my mind, I have this blogfest where everybody hold a blogfest in my honour. Can't imagine that happening.

Take care and welcome to Groundblog Day...

  40. Okay, I love the DogFestBlogFest! An excuse to post more about Emma! :-) Though, being a cat lady as well as a dog lover, I do have to say I think you should add a CatFestBlogFest to this list.

Some of the other ones totally made me giggle. I like how you put a positive, or at least amusing spin, on those blogs that make you want to throw something at your computer.

    1. Hi Danielle,

Ah yes, now that would make for a 'pawfect' blogfest :) I used DogFest BlogFest because it rhymed. Penny the Jack Russell dog and modest internet superstar, rather reluctantly agrees we should make it a creature fest, including cats. Hello to Emma! :)

I try to do a rather tongue-in-cheek perspective on all those blogfests. And no, I certainly wouldn't make fun of that one that relates to the alphabet! :) And some of those blogs, the drive by, self-promoting, self-obsessed bloggers do make me want to smash my screen....

      Thank you, Danielle,

  42. I've been blogging for the past 5 years, the last two year being taken much more seriously. Until the A-Z blogfest of last month, I wasn't all that aware of this phenomenon. Last month I was surprised by all the blogs getting involved; and started to wonder if the bloggers involved were having such a terrible time think of something to write about, that they resorted to the last option, the ABCs. Please don't let me get that desperate.

  43. Hi Glynis,

Serious blogging, combined with some light-hearted blogging, is a nice balance, I believe. I frankly find all these blogging contests and blog hops and challenges and whatever, tiresome. The cynical me might even suggest that a number get involved with them to just ego trip and self-promote. Of course, never being cynical, I wont suggest such a thing. Blogger anarchy is the way forward :)

    Thank you, Glynis.

  44. I want to do the dogfest blog! (or petfest) I think it would be really fun to just have people post a picture of their pets.

I don't join in on a lot of blog hops...they are very time consuming. If there is one that catches my attention I will join up, but I won't read blogs non-stop for days. My favorite one was when you introduce some other blogger that has had an impact on you or your writing.

    1. Hi Sharon,

Thanks for commenting on this archived posting :) A dogfest would be pawesome and pawfect. I'm thinking about setting up a blogpest blogfest.

I don't join them because I'd much rather do my own thing. I find the whole blog hop thing tedious and repetitive. One that is sincere and promotes inspiration you found from other bloggers, is a great one, Sharon.

      Thank you, dear friend.

  45. I didn't read thru all the comments, but I don't think it's very nice to have a Blog Pest where people blog about the other blogs that annoy them. That's really mean actually. I'd personally be devastated to read that someone was annoyed by my blog.

I do try to comment back to each commenter individually. However, I might have to shorten my replies or give a group thank you. That way, I can spend more time commenting on your blogs. Thank you and peace, my friend.
