Continuing To Stick With It.

I'm having a bit of trouble focusing on my blog.  I'm working on reinforcing my positivity.  Thanks to you 'sticking with me', for which I'm profoundly grateful, I'm going to do a repost that was titled, "Stick With It"  If you have read this before,  I hope you can 'stick' this one out.   I will continue to stick with it...

There was this guy I knew who had a bit of yearly school tradition.  The poor fellow ended up in twelve different schools in twelve years.  At the beginning of each school year he would glue himself to the head teacher.  'Why do you do that?' I asked.  'Well, my parents told me that I should always stick to my principals.'

I have no idea where this blog is going.  It might go for a stroll through the park and end up at a take-away restaurant and order a pizza.  Can you tell I'm typing 'off the top of my head'?  Now how awkward is that?

'Knock, knock!'  Excuse me, ...'someone's knocking at the door.  Somebody's ringing the bell.  Do me a favour, open the door and let 'em in...'  Well, perhaps not.  Okay, I'm back now.  Yet another 'door-to-door' salesman.  I told him I don't need a door and that there is no reason whatsoever that I require a 'shiny new knob'.  'Sir', he stated.  'I'm merely wanting to canvas you.'  'Canvas me?  What?  You want to turn me into some kind of tent?'  He gave me a perplexed look and rushed off.  So quickly that he almost forgot his door, complete with the shiny new knob.

Let me see if I can do something that relates to the title of this posting.  Ah yes, 'stick'.  Apparently, 'stick' can be something that holds two objects together. It can be a small thin branch of a tree.  You can 'stick out like a sore thumb' and end up in a 'stick-up' as you 'stick to your guns' whilst getting 'stick' for living in the 'sticks'.  You can even have a hockey 'stick' , a walking 'stick',  a 'stick' of gum and oh yes...something else...now what is it?  Hmmm...a memory 'stick'.  And speaking of walking sticks.  This shepherd told me he was really struggling.  'Why's that?'  I inquired.  'Just can't get the staff these days.  Nothing but crooks.'

Note my hand desperately clinging on to that wonderful object of alleged stickiness.  It is sometimes known as 'Scotch tape' or 'Sellotape'.  Let's just call it a roll of sticky tape.  Sticky tape, the gift wrapping nightmare.  I usually end up with a series of teeth marks on said sticky tape.  It's one of life's great mysteries that the beginning part of the tape magically blends into the roll.  Several teeth marks later and I discover that broken shred of tape that comes of the roll and sticks to my fingers.  Then, I start again, frantically searching for that elusive spot that indicates where the beginning part of the tape is now hiding.  Yep, one of life's great mysteries.  Along with the mystery of the missing pens, combs and socks.

Right then, that's enough of this.  I managed to stick with it.  I hope you were 'glued' to your computer screen as you read the musings of a man who tried not to get unstuck.  If you somehow managed to stick with it and read to the end of this posting...well done!

  2. Ah...typical man, using tape to solve his problem. Although, to be truthful, it's usually duct tape. ;) Seriously, I remember this one! As witty now as it was then. Hang in there, surely things will flow more smoothly soon!

  5. What about the mental conundrum of double sided tape? Gary you are definitely not 'stuck up'. You have stick-to-it-iveness and that is a positive thing.

Ah yes, I had a double-sided tape. Got twice as much music on it. Ignore that! :) Thank you, Delores and I will stick to what you note.

    1. Hi lotta joy,

If I turned the end of the tape back on itself, I would have to somehow roll out the entire tape to get to the end of the tape. Anyway, thanks for the tip and next time the terror of the tape gets stuck on my fingers and teeth, I shall think of your clever idea. Oh my, flipping tape on my fingers and keyboard....

  11. On the reservation cars are held together by the great invention of duct tape. Rez ride are what they are called on the reservations. (: My first ride was a $150 brown/rusty red, a HS senior gift, didn't last long because my Dad's broke down and he took it back for himself.

    1. Hi Kendal,

That seems like quite an interesting HS senior gift. I had a car once that had duct tape put on the side of it where two other cars had hit and run it. The duct tape spelt out "OUCH!"

  12. If the stick and tape don't work, try duct-tape. When it first came out I thought it was duck tape. I was appalled! What! They killed ducks and turned them into sticky tape! It took a long time before someone set me straight. Which reminds me. Why is that? Did they think because I'm brunette I'd automatically know that the world meant duct not duck? Am I an electrician!

    (big deep breath)

No this isn't about me. It's about my goofy friend Gary and his awesome sense of humour.

So, what is the flip side of great humour?

    A very giving heart.

    1. Hi Joylene,

Oops, I thought it was "duck" tape. I thought it was tape to stick on their beaks because their honking was too loud. So shouldn't duct tape be used for ducts? Which wouldn't be too good, because who wants to block the air from the furnace or stop my tears flowing from my tear ducts...'Watt', you aren't an electrician? Do electricians talk about 'current' affairs? 'Ohm', put up some 'resistance' and ignore me.

I found myself stuck for words with your wonderful comment, Joylene. We both know that a sense of humour is truly the best medicine. You are very kind and I'm very grateful.

  17. Dear Gary,
Ah, trying to find the end of the sellotape is indeed one of life's little, oddly frustrating, pursuits. I hope you managed to find your end, though, Gare, so to speak, as I know it can be almost invisible! I also hope that any sticky situations currently dogging you (did I just say "dogging"? Indeed I did) are swiftly resolved.
Very Best Wishes, and a memory stick (at your age you may need one), your way,
    David.

  20. Hi Dear Gary!

Your silliness is contagious! I felt like such a stick in the mud before I read this post. Hee, hee. Did I come up with a new one, or is it buried in the many wordplayful comments of your devoted readership?

I know how it feels to be road blogged. Potholes to publishing are a drag. But you sure know how to stir a pothole with a stick.

I'm your greatest fan, Gary. You always blow me away with your humor, resilience, integrity and kindness.

Gray as in grey as in the colour grey. I think we should all do a blog about not being able to do a blog. Perhaps have a non-blog blogging award....

  23. Isn't it wonderful to have enough of a stockpile (or should that be stickpile?) of old posts in reserve that you can do a re-run when the creative juices don't feel like flowing to create a new one? This was a fun post, and obviously, your creative juices are flowing just fine now. Your responses to some of the comments are too, too punny. Very clever.

    1. Hi Susan,

Oh yes, my dear friend, a bit of a "stickpile" can come in handy, even sticky handy. Ignore that... The words are floating around in my head, trouble is the words keep having other words I don't want floating around, interfering with the words I want to actually get posted. That probably made no sense...

Like you, I do have fun with plays on words. The interaction I am so blessed to get from you and others, keeps my last two brain cells active :) Must go now and put some maple syrup on my 'puncakes' :)

Thank you, Susan. Have a lovely weekend.
