Flash Friction.

Hi there, yes it's me, Penny the Jack Russell dog and modest internet superstar!  My human dad, Gary, is still feeling rather lethargic.  Which means, I'm going to get him motivated.  Motivation will come from him doing the following assignment.

The assignment is in regards to something called, "flash friction", arf, sorry, "flash fiction".  Gary is  curious about what it is and thus, I'm getting him to do some research on the subject.

I could tell him what the definition of flash fiction is.  However, I think it would be most excellent that he went to the village of Flash and find out if the folks of Flash, who I guess are called, "Flashers", could explain to Gary what flash fiction is all about.

We live in a town named, "Leak", oops, "Leek."  As you can see, Leek is not far from Flash.  The distance is just over eight miles.  Gary can get there in a flash in his flash car, or maybe about fifteen minutes.

Gary being Gary, thinks that flash fiction must be rude.  When it comes to a flash, he thinks of somebody and we're not naming names, who likes to quickly expose their private parts.  At this point, I make no mention of a trench coat.

So, with his thinking, "Flash Gordon", means flashing some dude named Gordon.  I shall let you work out what he might think of, "flash flood", "flashlight", "flashback", "flash in the pan", "flash the cash", or that movie, "Flashdance."

I could help Gary out by letting him know that there's a nice human who's well into flash fiction. All he'd have to do is follow this link over to Yolanda's site, which is here, DEFENDING THE PEN.

I shall end this pawst off with some pawetry.  Yes, Penny the Pawet, paws some prose, you nose, um, knows.

Flash fiction
An addiction
Do a flash
Make some cash
Flash in the pun
Flash on the run
Jumpin' Jack Flash
Balderdash
Such a mishmash
So slapdash
With a bit of panache
Flash fiction
An addiction.

  2. So tell me, Penny, has your human figured out what flash fiction really is yet? Or are you going to just let him continue to play around in Flash with the possibility of embarrassing himself? You, by the way, wrote a fine and humorous post in his stead. Does he know how lucky he is.?

    1. Hi human, Bish,

Unfortunately, he doesn't have a clue as to what flash fiction really is. I need to sit him down and have a dog to dude talk. Embarrassing himself is a normal routine for him. So, no change there :) I try to inspire him with my writing. He does know how lucky he is. So much so that he cannot believe his luck that a superstar dog would allow him to live with her...

  45. Take 2:

It's been so long since I flashed by
I've no excuse. I cannot lie.
    Sorry for that, my friend
And for this poem that may offend
A snobby poet who doesn't bend
Imagine that - would be hard
To eat or sit or play some cards
But it would be nice if every flash
Resulted in some cold, hard cash
And I would keep a growing stash
But fiction isn't real, so this won't be
Nothing's hard for me to touch or see
And into the sewer I shall go
    To flash pollutants down below.

I hope you and Penny continue to see the light and gain inspiration, Gary. xo

      A flash from you
      It must be true
No worries about you dropping by
      I state with a sigh
      Flash the cash
      From you secret stash
      Play strip poker
      With a playful joker
      Fiction aint real
      What's the deal
      A sewer for you
      It can't be true
      Flush the flash
      For cold, hard cash.

Thanking you for all you do. In a flash of light, Gary's gonna' be alright....

  60. Yes, I did it again... I was not discouraged by your switching off your comments....

Though I'm a loner (which is why I don't have children but, strangely enough, one day I woke up with a wife), I'm not isolated so it's hard for me to fully understand what you're going through, Gary, never scary, always flairy and kind. My empathy skills need a bit of polishing up, you see. So how come you're isolated (if you don't mind my asking)? What is it that makes you feel lonely? Are you lonely too when surrounded by people? It sounds to me like you are not a fan of changes. If that's true, I sure can relate my friend. Well, a bit at least. I don't know about you, but I never go with the flow. I like watching the flow pass me by, though. I can only imagine what it must be like to be a father whose son is now a young man trying to find his own path in life. I's be worried 24/7, not to mention what I would do if he were a she. I'd be The Blue Godfather From Hell And Back if anyone hurt my kid. You know what I mean? Oh I know I'll be a lonely man when I'm old and grey (should I be so lucky) and I'll probably regret I don't have children for all the wrong reasons, but in the end we're all alone, Gary. Don't you think? The best we can do is to be kind to other people and hopefully they don't flip us the proverbial bird. You never know. People do the strangest things. Maybe we should start The Moody Blue Club. What do you say? Let's make that The Moody Blue Yet Trying To Be Positive Club. Might be hard to remember. Truedessa (I call her True Blue) might want to join us.

Now, as for being chronically exhausted... that's something I do know a lot about, my friend. It sucks - that's one. And no one knows how to fix you up - that's two. Sarcoidosis is my lifetime companion and I can tell you that physical exhaustion leads to psychological problems as well. Why do you think they call me Blue? Exhaustion leads to depression. Luckily I'm so terrified of dying that my psychological oddities are pretty harmless, but there's always a risk of doing things a person might regret, you know? So, yeah, carry on, Gary. You're strong. You're kind. You're smart too. How about that? Three compliments on a Sunday morn. Plus you are a great Dad. Four compliments and still no Bora Bora... How in the world did that happen? ;)

    1. Hi Blue,

I appreciate you taking the time and effort to comment via an archived post, good sir. You might have guessed that comments have been switched off lately because I'm somehow trying to catch up on some form of interaction on other blog sites. Your altruistic tendencies, however, are greatly admired.

Why am I a loner? Actually, why am I a rather reluctant recluse, might be closer to it. It's an environmental situation brought on by a series of incidents that have, quite frankly, left me scared, left me feeling unworthy of social interaction. I loved my wife and was there for her no matter what, to the point that my marriage was virtually platonic. My wife had been sexually and emotionally abused to the point that any form of sex was just something others might well do. I loved her that much that I would never, ever cheat. Our son, Tristan was timed and planned. She only wanted the one child and I understood.

Thus, during a time when I had a total breakdown due to severe workplace bullying, my wife became pregnant again. Only thing is I wasn't the father. And folks might wonder why I'm fucked up. There's a lot more to this and I've worked in a number of jobs within the mental health field. Only to have each one of those jobs exploit and demean my empathetic nature. It almost makes me want to give up. Almost, but not quite. Too resilient for that.

Blue, or whatever your name is, a club with Truedessa, or whatever her name is, might well be plan. Wonder what she reckons to such a concept?

As you will well know, I understand what you mean about the chronic exhaustion. It was a challenge to reply to your response. Which makes it the more remarkable that you mustered up the energy to take the time to visit. Kudos and admiration to you. This might be an inspirational catalyst.

I'm flattered by your compliments. In a world where so much negative crap happens, you are a ray of positive sunshine. I wont Bora Bora you any further. Thanks again and here's to a hopeful future.

      In kindness, Gary

    2. Don't mention it, Gary. My taking the time to comment comes from the heart. I only visit about thirty or so blogger friends and I consider you one of them. I prefer quality over quantity.

Thank you for sharing so much about yourself. That makes you a very brave man, you know. Though my friends call me Blue, my real name is Randy. Nice to meet you, Gary. I can't imagine what it's like to have been through so much, but I'm trying. Severe workplace bullying is something I can relate to. I'm someone my colleagues are a bit scared of being a tall guy with piercing eyes I suppose, and back in 2008 my then manager was the King of Scaredy-cats who hated my guts for being such a popular teacher. I still don't know what his problem was but he and his brownnosed back-stabbing cronies tried to make me quit. To make a long story short, they didn't succeed, I made their incompetence visible and they were given he boot. Does that mean I'm happy now? No, because their faces keep haunting me and I wish all of this had never happened. It lasted for 5 years. Maybe what I'm trying to say it there's no shortage of mean people and the only way to deal with them is by playing their game. I admire your emphatic nature. Truedessa and Dezzy are like you that way and I learn a lot from how you deal with your own problems and how you communicate through your posts and comments. I'm not an empath, but I'm trying. Don't underestimate your influence, Gary. I don't know what True's name is. To me she is True or True Blue. What's in a name, right? I know she'd like said concept - yes, sir.

Remember this: whatever people say about you and how they perceive you is not what defined you.

    3. Ok, Blue and Gary I came over to see what this Moody Blues Club is all about. Blue does like to leave messages in older posts for some reason. I guess he had to find a work around as you have comments off.

Gary, sounds life has given you a bumpy ride my friend. I agree with Blue you are indeed brave to share your story and you always try to stay positive. Why would anyone want to bully you two nice men? People are mean sometimes that is very true.

So, what exactly do we do in the Moody Blues Club?

    4. Okay Trudy Dessa and Mr. Blue Dude :)

I shall keep my reply to your accumulated comments, mercifully brief. I did want to assure you, Randy, that, although you have told me your actual name, I'm was okay with just know you as "Blue Grumpster". Still, it's nice to meet you as your name and thanks for such a candid follow up response.

Bullying, my friend, has a devastating impact and something that can truly haunt. I know that bullying and all the ramifications, nearly killed me, nearly, but not quite. You, good sir, have my total respect for you having the honesty to share your valid feelings. That's one of the powerful aspects that can be achieved within this blogging community. I'm grateful to know you, Randy.

And dear, Truedessa, yes Blue went to a lot of effort to communicate via this archived post. Of course, while struggling with chronic fatigue, I did have the comments switched off in the next couple of posts in some attempt to try and be more proactive on other blog sites. I haven't done very well with that.

People bully nice people because they are easy targets. Bullies try to mask their own insecurities by by targeting somebody they consider weak and vulnerable.

The Moody Blues Club could have poetry and thoughts that touch the souls of those who wish to sense the powerful gift of compassion and being there for others.

      Dream on, my lovely friend.

To you both, peace and hope.

    5. Hi Gary,

I wrote this long post and then changed my mind and thought I would come back and write when I was feeling a bit better. Now, I am thinking how rude was that to leave you wondering why I deleted my message.

I really like the thought of The Moody Blues Club as I am blue at times. Blue a/k/a Randy is always coming up with ideas. He is a real thinker and I guess I am a big dreamer. My head always in a cloud someday I might come down when the world is a better place. I'd rather soar the distant realms and open the doors to perception.

I understand about the no comments no need to explain. I guess you just need to do what is right for you and there is nothing wrong with being proactive on another blog. You have a good heart and I say bullies be gone.

Take care and walk in peace and calm and always dream big!!!

    6. Hi Truedessa,

Please don't worry about you deleting that comment. I understand and totally respect what you did. Thus, that means a virtual smile, your way :)

Ah yes, The Moody Blues Club and a bit of "Nights in White Satin....never reaching the end. Letters I've written, never meaning to send...."

Thinkers and dreamers. The intertwining of thoughts, of ideals, of dreams and aspirations. Keep soaring above the clouds and breathe in the view, my kind friend.

Yes, because I was trying to catch up a bit with commenting on other blogs, the comments section was switched off for a couple of my posts. Sometimes, I worry, rather needlessly, that folks might note my unintended lack of interaction.

I actually became friends with some bullies once we got through the true reasons as to why they bullied.

I might add that my latest post actually has the comments switched on. I like to think the post is magical. Magic is something we both embrace.

With kindness and goodwill to you,

      Gary
