"From Bonavista To Vancouver Island..."

Greetings, yes it's me, Penny the Jack Russell dog and modest internet star!  On behalf of my human Gary, who I so kindly allow to live with me, we wish all the animals and humans of Canada, a peaceful, positive and safe, "Canada Day".
I would kindly ask the Canadian humans to be very careful with fireworks and ideally, please go to a controlled public display.  All the loud bangs and bright lights can be very frightening to some of us animals and the next week in North America can be a most worrying time for the more timid of your precious wildlife..
Anyway, enjoy, have fun, rejoice in living in one of the most beautiful and diverse lands on the planet.

The above video has one of my Canadian dog superheroes, "Hosehead".  You may also note those legends of Canada, "Bob and Doug McKenzie".  They did a song with the vocalist from that great Canadian band, "Rush".   "Geddy Lee" of Rush did a collaboration song with them titled, "Take Off".

And here is the song. "Take Off", eh!  Good day eh , Canada!

  3. Happy Canada Day! I once owned the MacKenzie Brothers album... many years ago. Brings back memories. The fireworks started around here last night at 1 a.m. and will continue for the week ahead at least. Vermonters like to explode things. Beest hid under the sofa.

I hope you get to celebrate your native land today, Gary!

Thanks for those Canada Day wishes :) Did you realise that one of the dudes is Rick Moranis, as in, "Honey I Shrank the Kids"...
I think folks should be very cautious in the setting off of fireworks. Not only potentially dangerous, but a real concern for some of our precious animals. Hope "Beest" is okay.
I celebrated and let my neighbour's know that's it's Canada Day. They hadn't even heard of it. Oh well.
Enjoy the rest of your weekend.

  6. Happy happy Canada Day, eh Penny. Eh? Kewl that you and Gary still like the Mckenzie Brothers. They're truly Canadian--not idiots, sister, dear--icons! You't can see, but my sister's visiting, and right now she's hanging over my shoulder yapping about the McKenzie brothers being one brick short of a load. Like they'd even haul bricks, eh?!

Our weekend has been a rather typical time in lil' ol' England, rain followed by more rain. Still, I sometimes have fun in the lake, sorry, garden outside.
I think that's very nice of you to check out all your Canadian friends and wish them a Happy Canada Day. I shall pass on your wishes to my human, Gary :) Glad you liked the photo of me. Thanks for such nice wishes.

    1. Hey Static,
I still think it would be better if you really got into the spirit of the celebration and guzzled down a case of "Moose Head" beer. Then, maybe things would be a little different as you gave a moose some head whilst grooving to the music of the McKenzie Brothers. Some animal's right campaigners would like to talk to you :)

Of course, I celebrated responsibly. My alleged human Gary, another story.

  13. I like Canada but for some reason they don't like me. Last time I went to Toronto my car got searched at the border and it all went downhill from there. That stereotype about them being nice and polite is so not true.

    1. Hi PT,
I'm going to let my human take over on this one. PT, I'm sorry to hear about your unfortunate incident at the Canadian border. Of course, you cannot base all of them to be that way. I have been to the States from Blaine, Washington on the way to Seattle. I always found the US Customs folks to be rather rude and suspicious. One time they tore apart the insides of my car and then left me to put back my messed up car into something drivable. Yet, despite that, I consider most Americans to be polite, loud but polite.
      Take care, eh.

  24. Hi Gary:
Great post!!! I was thinking the same thing when the fireworks were going off in Victoria as the birds, seagulls and peacocks, were screaming up a storm. I thought, we really don't realize how this sound effects our animal friends!!! Fortunately, the fireworks in Victoria only last about 10 minutes.
Yes, Bob and Doug are a classic!!!!

    And Penny is very cute!!!

    Wishing you the best,

    1. Hi Suzanne,
Thank you for that and delighted to interact with you. I can well imagine the fireworks going off in Victoria would start a lot of the wildlife screaming. Or maybe, it was the noise coming from the B.C. Parliament buildings :)
Seriously, humans really need to think of the impact that fireworks and bright lights can have on us vulnerable animals.
Bob and Doug, couple of "hosers", eh!!!
Thank you for thinking that me, yes me, Penny the Jack Russell dog and modest internet star, is cute.

Thanks for stoppin' to visit me!

Hope y'all are havin' a wonderful, safe week! You had a miserable wet cold June and so did we here in the mountains.

My Human is enjoying her tea time. I think she gets it from her grandmother who got it from her English ancestors.

It's our Independence Day today and it's raining and thundering. So we're inside for the rest of the day.

I hope your 4th of July wasn't a total washout. Still, be indoors and just lazing about, can be fun. And belated happy fourth of July to y'all :)

  28. I love that song from Rush, Bob and Doug. I heard it when they came out with it a long time ago. But it's one of those gems you can't tire of. Hosehead is a super duper hero of a dog, isn't he? I bet you, Penny get excited and begin drooling at the mere mention of Hosehead, eh?

Luckily, for me, the fireworks this year aren't too loud in the neighborhood this July 4th. Usually, they scare the shit out of my cats. You're right, though. People should go to see them in a designated public area. One, for the animals peace of mind and two, for people and their safety. I don't know how it is in Canada, but we have a lot casualties here in the states from people getting their hands or fingers blown off by dangerous fireworks- not mention getting blinded on the fourth of July.

Hope you had a great Canada Day, Penny. You can pass that along to Gary, too.

I knew you were a sensible human. It makes a lot of sense and if you consider the cost of buying fireworks, it's much better to go to a controlled public display. There are a number of fireworks related accidents in Canada. And over here during the various celebrations through the year, you here about how busy accident and emergency gets.
I had a nice Canada Day, thank you. My human dressed up in clothes with maple leafs. Very few here had even heard of Canada Day. Glad you had a rather peaceful fourth of July :)
