Piddle In A Tube.

Hi there, yes it's me, Gary, the human dad of Penny the Jack Russell dog and modest internet superstar!  I will now take this opportunity to thank Penny very much for taking over the blog site as I continue to try and find the baffling cause to my ongoing chronic fatigue.  *Boo! Hiss! Bring back the dog!*  Huh?  What was that?  Now then, where was I?

On Friday, the 27th of November, I had an appointment for a check-up with the nurse at my health centre.  When I saw the nurse, she seemed surprised that I was having a check-up because I'd had a check-up about three months before.  I explained to her that I was phoned and asked if I would like a check-up.

So, just for fun, or something like that, she took my blood pressure.  My blood pressure was perfectly normal.  So, just for fun, or something like that, she decided to take some blood from me to be analysed for cholesterol.

I told her, despite every other test I've taken, there has been no indicator as to why I'm feeling constantly exhausted.  It gets very frustrating having tests come back showing that everything appears to be normal.  Well, normal in regards to physical tests....

The nurse suggested I make an appointment with a doctor right after my visit with her.  I went to reception and made an appointment to see a doctor on the following Monday, the 30th of November.

When I saw the doctor, although she means well, I felt like I was getting nowhere with trying to solve my chronic fatigue mystery.  The doctor printed up a bunch of stuff in regards to healthy eating and sleeping.  Oh my, I've done this all before and I've been very good at improving my lifestyle. Anyway, she handed me over a tube that I was supposed to piddle in.  Not then and there, I should add.   Nope, take it home, piddle in the tube and then bring it to reception.

Piddle in a tube
I felt like a boob
Piddle in a vial
My urine on trial
Took tube to reception
No urine deception
Here's my pee
For all to see
The piddle
Was not a riddle
Got a phone call
They were on the ball
Your urine is fine
Was the bottom line
Then I got a letter
This gets better and better
Please arrange for another blood test
We kindly request
Test after test
Surely, they jest
What does this mean
I might make a scene
Tired of being tired
Something's backfired
Must get inspired
Patience required.

I haven't had a sleep study done for sleep apnea. A good suggestion and should try and suggest that to the doctors, the nurses and anybody within the health profession that might listen to me. I'm really starting to think it's something to do with my new environment and life-changing upheavals.

      Thank you, Birdie.

  6. There's a few books on adrenal fatigue that are interesting and similar to you, doctors cannot find anything but it's still there.

I wish you the best and that you finally get a doctor that can help you feel less tired.

PS: Is there any mold/mould in your house?

No mould in my brand new apartment but thanks for the thought.

Just a thought, but have you had your thyroid tested? An underactive thyroid could cause a lot of the fatigue - I have a friend who was in similar circumstances a while ago and several tests showed nothing until they did the thyroid one which showed up the cause of her tiredness.

  16. I hope you get it figured out. Last summer I felt exhausted and found it was a combination of a lack of vitamins (must remember good nutrition!) and a bit of the blues. The worse I physically felt, the worse I mentally felt. To feel better, I needed to move and eat better. To move and feel better, I needed some energy. Oy vey.

Getting it figured out might mean I post more. Then again....Of course, we both realise how important a healthy, balanced diet is. The blues can be such a contributing factor as the physical and mental health well being are intertwined. I hope keeping active, as best you can and maintaining a healthy diet works well for you on all the energy levels. It takes a lot to get the momentum going and continuing.

  21. Keep up the humor, Gary! It's the only way to get through it. I spent a year, in 2014, going to doctor after doctor after apecialist after blood test and moor blood tests. I was a human pin cushion. 19 vials every few months to check, verify, and double check. I was told most things looked normal but Then the shrugs for why others were "abnormal" finally, they just gave up and called it fibromyalgia. I think that's doctor speak for "I dunno"
Still wishing you all the best and I do hope they find something to help you.

  37. Can you request a referral to a rheumatologist or an internist to be screened for Chronic Fatigue Syndrome? There is no test that can specifically diagnose CFS, but it may be the cause if you experience overwhelming fatigue for six months and no other cause can be found by the usual means. (At least that was the criteria when my daughter was diagnosed.) The specialist would be the one to make the diagnosis. CFS is still a medical mystery, although much research is being done all over the world. Good luck.

  38. Hi Gary and Penny:
Sorry I'm so late in getting here. I've had my own go-a-round with the medical profession in the last few weeks. I can relate, and loved the humor of your poem, but I know the frustration runs deep. Don't give up, they say you have to keep pressing, someday, someone will listen and have the answer. I think most of these folks simply report to a job, do what's needed, and collect a paycheck. Few, a very few are interested in looking deeper. If the blood test says normal - that's all they see - and the complaint you walked in with, as far as their concerned, is solved or more likely, they don't even remember your complaint, all they are doing is reading a test result. Patience my friend, patience. Says the woman who's reached the end of her own rope. :)

No worries, dear lady, always a pleasure when you can visit :) You summed it up rather nicely. Patients need patience when it comes to patiently waiting for an outcome that seems to be elusive. I do think most of the medical folks I have seen are concerned. However, with cutbacks to our health service by our idiotic UK government, it has become difficult to see the same doctor. Has become a bit of a doctor lottery.

And on behalf of Penny, Tristan and the exhausted one, here's to a joyous, hopeful holiday season and a peaceful 2016.

  41. I can see that you are tired of not being able to find the reason of your tiredness. Here in the US they call it Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. I am not so sure why they add the word "Syndrome" to a symptom instead of looking at the real causes.
I hope that your blood sugar is all right. I get tired if I eat sugary things. My doctor advises that I eat natural sugars only and not added sugar. There might be a very good explanation for your tiredness and it has not been pin pointed as yet.

Oh yes and the irony of feeling even more tired due to the tiring, endless tests. In the UK, they also call it Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. Of course, a syndrome can pertain to a group of symptoms, which, like you state, doesn't really pinpoint an actual main cause.

My blood sugar is just fine. It was slightly above what it should be, but I had a retest and the levels are now fine with my reducing my sugar intake to a minimum. I do not knowingly add sugar to anything I prepare. Thank you for noting that, however.

Thank you for your kind, thoughtful comment, Munir. I shall pass on your love to the adorable Penny.

    1. Hi Sandra,

First of all, lovely to make your acquaintance and linking into this blog. Thank you :) Indeed, if only the medical profession could find the underlying reason for this baffling condition.

Hope you had a peaceful, positive weekend, Sandra.

Glad you liked the poem :) I think the medical profession is taking the piss, literally. Thank you and this exhaustion is exhausting.

      Take care, Chrys.
