It was a dark and foggy morning. Just gone five on that dark and foggy Wednesday morning. The photo you see is the view I couldn't actually see on that dark and foggy morning. At the bottom of the photo is Rudyard Lake. At the top of the photo is a hill named, "The Cloud."
The photo location is about four miles north of where I started from in Leek, Staffordshire. Where was I going at five in the morning? I was heading to Manchester airport to get my son upon his return from Crete. I had driven to Manchester airport on numerous occasions. However, I'd never driven there on a dark and foggy morning.
Then I got those silly thoughts. Those self-fulfilling prophecy thoughts. "I'm going to get lost this time. I'm going to end up at a mystery roundabout that takes me away from the airport", said my silly inner voice. "Instead of the roundabout with the turn-off that shows the cute little plane, indicating the airport, I'm going to end up seeing the exit for, "Upper Lower Piggy Bottom."
It was moments like that I really wished I did have satellite navigation. Yep, the voice of "Mr. T", yelling, I told you the second left at the roundabout, fool!" Or the reassuring voice of Joanna Lumley stating, "You've arrived, darling." Then again, I knew of the horror stories about sat-navs. I could see me following the instructions which led me to a dead-end lane, destination canal.
The first part of what should of been about a forty five minute journey, went according to plan. To heck with that silly inner voice. Soon I'd be parking at the airport. Then I noticed the sign on what was now a very busy road, that indicated that I was in some place named "Gatley". If I continued on, I'd end up in downtown Manchester. Didn't want to do that. I swung back around at the next turning and to my relief, I saw the sign that stated, "Manchester airport", complete with the cute little plane on the sign.
Finally and almost an hour into my forty five minute journey, I noted the correct parking for the correct terminal. Except, somehow I ended up missing the entrance and then saw a sign in front of me that indicated I was heading to a place named Gatley. Much quicker this time, I swung back around and circled the parking locations. This time, I actually got to the spot where you get a little token from a machine. Yes, the barrier went up. Yes, I was in the correct parking lot.
Phew! Now safely parked up and just over an hour since I left Leek, I went into the arrivals area. The flight had landed slightly early, just before seven. Almost an hour later, my son walked through the arrivals After leaving the airport and being light out, I was more confident about the return trip. That would be until I realised that I missed the Macclesfield bypass road and ended up in the thick of the morning "school run". This is where everybody who has a vehicle, drives their kids the twenty feet to the school. This means blocked roads and total chaos.
Finally, yes finally, we get out of Macclesfield and see the sign for Leek. A nice straight drive of about twelve miles south.
It's now nine in the morning. My son and I, enter our home. A certain dog, now very zippy, practically knocks him over and frantically licks his face. Penny, the same dog who had lost her appetite and caused me so much worry, that I took her to the vets. Tristan took her into the garden and they had a nice, long chat. Penny, I'm pleased to report, has regained her appetite.
Slightly off-topic, I was at the hospital on Thursday afternoon, September 12. Went in for my once every three months check-up with the urologist and my condition has improved. That's good, indeed. The only thing wrong was that I found myself suffering with "appointment envy." How come that dude who came in half an hour after me gets called in within five minutes? Of course there's a logical explanation. They hate me. I'm kidding. I think I'm kidding.
Other situations are back to normal, also. Penny waits patiently for her human brother to finish in the bathroom.
Other heart warming moments have returned. A young man and his beloved dog. A bond of unconditional love. Two days ago started out with a dark and foggy morning. Now it's bright and clear.
.
You took the scenic route, didn't you?
ReplyDeleteGlad Tristan is home safe and Penny doing better.
Maybe Penny could help navigate next time?
Did a voice inside ever whisper 'I know I should've taken that left turn at Albuquerque?'
Hi Ninja dude,
DeleteGone three in the morning and I'm back at my own site. I must be crazy. Must of taken the correct roundabout to get here.
Scenic route with a lot of fog. As I type this, Penny and Tristan are both doing well. She ate some of his food. Penny can be my sat-nav, complete with her voice.
I kept hearing something about, "do you know the way to San Jose..wo..wo. wo..."
Have a good weekend.
Gary
You were on your own personal roundabout to Gately. So glad he's home and Penny is happy once again. Even gladder (is that word? well it is now!) that you are showing signs of improvement. Everyone home safe and sound, the sun shining, health improving, appetites restored....life is good.
ReplyDeleteHi Delores,
DeleteI was on a roundabout that might of well said, "Groundhog Day", next left. All is well now and as I type this, a zippy dog is rolling around on the carpet. Great stuff and good news all around.
Thank you, Delores.
Have a gladder weekend :)
Gary
Wow....we have a pain airport here too, Boston's Logan. No one would come get me whenever I flew back to visit. I had to take the bus to Cape Cod b/c it's such a clusterfrack up there! I'm glad that Penny is feeling better and your son his home safe, and congrats on the clean bill of health!
ReplyDeleteHi JoJo,
DeleteBased on your experience and the reluctance of folks getting you from Logan, I might suggest my son takes a bus, or a taxi, or walks....Indeed and all is well. The dog is eating. My son is screaming at his computer game. I'm evidently in better health than first diagnosed. I'm a lucky dude.
A peaceful weekend to you.
Gary
Ugg hate trying to get out of such places. Penny sure once again looks like a happy pup, glad she is and your son got home safe and sound.
ReplyDeleteHi Pat,
DeleteYou share my pain. I reckon the cat would chauffeur you to the airport. Penny is much better and my son is yelling at the X-Box. All is back to normal. Thank you, Pat.
A happy weekend to you and the cat and all of that.
Gary

Hi Tammy,
Speaking of "Groundhog Day", I note your comment repeats and repeats.
Tammy, if you read my posting and actually commented on the posting, you would know that I kind of like dogs. I also informed you previously that I would help you out at a later time when my schedule allowed. I have a link and a corresponding photo to your site.
Big tail wag to you, Tammy. Did that sound right? Never mind.
Gary
Wendy! Crikey! :)
DeleteI would have ended up in Piggy Bottom. . Sure glad you got your son home safely and reunited with Penny. I hate to be seperated from my pups.
ReplyDeleteHi Dizzy-Dick,
DeleteI once ended up in Piggy Bottom. However, enough about my personal life :) I know how you have such a bond of love with your precious pups, my good friend.
It's been a wonderful, heart warming reunion for Penny and my son.
Y'all have a good weekend. You hear.
Gary
What a good and faithful friend. Bless her doggy heart.
ReplyDeleteHi Birdie,
DeleteShe is indeed a faithful and cherished family member. Bless your heart, my friend.
Have a peaceful weekend.
Gary
Our navigation system has a very nice lady with a British accent. It's so enchanting that you don't even know you're an idiot when she says so.
ReplyDeleteAlthough, I really don't think 'wanker' is a compliment.
Hi Al,
DeleteI wonder who that very nice lady with the British accent might be. It does seem like an absolutely fabulous situation. Of course, "wanker" is a compliment. And you can wank yourself silly with her enchanting voice. And "tosser" is also a compliment, my friend. One has been known to toss themselves off or get tossed off by another tosser, or would that be a 'tossee'.
Have a jolly lovely weekend, me old mucker.
Gary
I'm glad Penny is happy and hungry again!
ReplyDeleteHi Debra,
DeleteThank you. She is happy, hungry and zippy! :)
Have a good one, eh.
Gary
Awww, what a sweet post. I love happy endings, and it sounds like all is right in your world right now.
ReplyDeleteHi Susan,
DeleteAwe, thank you. A happy ending and my end is evidently a happier end, according to my urologist.
A British sports car, your way,
Gary
Oh, I totally understand, Gary. I am directionally challenged and for the past two years, I never stray off the streets I am familiar with even on clear days. Good for you though for not turning the keys over to Tristan for the ride home. I should use the GPS that my hubby gave me a few years ago but for some reason it ended up in his car - and he never gets lost. Well, at least one of us knows the way home.
ReplyDeleteI love Penny's plaid coat. Was she dressing for Fashion Week?
Hi Arleen,
DeleteAh, you can relate to this. I usually stay on familiar roads and ideally during the day time. The weird thing is I've driven to the airport on a number of occasions. This time, in the dark and in the fog, I somehow got it quite wrong. My son, due to my silly ex wife and her lousy husband, helping him to illegally drive, doesn't have a license after he wiped out his car he purchased that he drove on his own without a qualified driver with him. He wiped out the car and lost all his money on it. That was six years ago and I'm still angry.
Sorry about that rant. At least the GPS your hubby bought for you has been put to good use.
Penny is going to be featured in a magazine about her secret life as Sherlock Hound :)
Have a great weekend and mind where you go :)
Gary
WONDERFUL news. I am so happy that Penny has regained her appetite and her zest for living. Which would have to help you too.
ReplyDeleteAnd great news about the hospital appointment too. I think the people who get in on time (or early) have paid bribes. Probably large ones.
Hugs.
Gidday Sue,
DeleteThank you and having Penny back to her active self, has brought me much relief.
Indeed, by the time I actually got to see the urologist, the news of my continued improvement was worth the wait. I did notice exchanging of money up at reception. Very weird :)
Enjoy your Sunday, dear friend.
Gary
You made it with time to spare. You're good. I would still be driving around in the fog and not on purpose. Such a great story.... love of a dog. One of the great pleasures in this life. Happy ending to the story.
ReplyDeleteHi Manzanita,
DeleteOh yeah and thank goodness that I headed for the airport with that extra time. I had thoughts of driving around a foggy roundabout for the rest of my life. Thank you, dear lady, the shared love between a dog and a couple of humans. Happy endings are always good :)
Wishing you a positive remainder of your weekend.
Gary
Oh wonderful! Love the good news! All of it too, except the drive, but even that didn't go so bad. Hate to say this but you drive like me, or should I say get lost like me. I drove cross country with my two boys in a 14 foot u-haul and we'd spend the night in a hotel, and it never failed when we'd leave the next morning I wanted to go in the wrong direction, but my youngest, the navigator, always had me going in the right direction. He tells that story to this day. Don't have GPS either, but do have lots of maps and a road atlas, it's how my hubby likes to travel. We have taken some of the weirdest roads! On one such trip I swear I heard that e-e-e sound track from the horror shows. We hightailed it out there quick as could be.
ReplyDeleteSo glad things are back to normal at your house! Patches sends her best!
Hi Yolanda,
DeleteThank you for that. A weird beginning that had a good ending. It's a good thing your youngest let you know to leave the correct way the next morning. Heck, you might of ended up where you started :) I also try to rely on maps. Although the maps aren't too clear on the roundabout markings over here. I have experienced the weird roads of North America. The soundtrack to many a horror movie would be most fitting. Especially when I tried to drive in southern California.
Somewhat normal service has returned to our home. Penny thanks Patches and Penny shall contact Patches in a little while.
Thank you, Yolanda.
Happy upcoming Sunday.
Gary
What a journey, but I am SO very happy that Penny is back to herself again. Good news indeed :-) x
ReplyDeleteHi Teresa,
DeleteA journey in a foggy roundabout, roundabout sort of way :) Penny is perky, thank you. Nice to have some good news.
Thank you, Teresa.
Happy Sunday.
Gary :) x
I can imagine myself getting lost. I always turn on the GPS last minute, when I'm the most frustrated, fumbling with it at red lights.
ReplyDeleteYay, Penny has her human brother back.
Hi Medeia,
DeleteI sometimes get lost finding my way to my computer. Aha, this be the keyboard :) Knowing me, if I had a GPS, I'd lose it. Mind that fumbling at red lights. Did that sound right....
Thanks and Penny is delighted to have her human brother back.
Enjoy the rest of your weekend, Medeia.
Gary
Sounds like both you and Penny are glad for the safe return of Tristan. Hope he enjoyed his holiday. I don't like those dark and foggy morning either!
ReplyDeleteHi Suzanne,
DeletePenny is glad of my son's return. Okay, I'm glad he's back. Missed his yelling at his online gaming buddies. I think he enjoyed his holiday. Those dark and foggy mornings are not exactly our idea of fun.
Happy Sunday, Suzanne.
Gary
Oh dear... I have a confession to make. I am incredibly envious that you can make it to the airport and back all on your own. The other day I sat behind the wheel of a car for the first time in eleven years. The comfort of living in the city and having friends/family to drive me around, plus anxiety with the road rage of other drivers (everyone seems to have a death wish over here, I tell you) lulled me into becoming less independent.
ReplyDeleteSo I decided to change that, and had my sister take me to an empty parking lot where I had as much fun as a kid on a merry-go-round, but the belated-driving adult felt that the road would be a much scarier place. Something as 'easy' as driving, which most people take for granted, doesn't come that 'easily' to me. So kudos to you.
So glad to hear your family is back together. Dark and foggy mornings are the best days to snuggle up at home with loved ones.
Hi Chris,
DeleteI have a confession to make. Every time I go out in my car, I have to challenge every fibre of my anxiety. The irony of a virtual recluse out in the traffic. So, dear friend, kudos to you for getting behind the wheel of a car after eleven years. Road rage is all over the place. I just try to stay as calm as possible. Then I go racing after the idiot. I'm so kidding.
You did a wise thing having your sister take you to an empty parking lot. A gradual process in a location that you can feel more at ease. I almost always drive by myself. It's not much fun, but it does help me combat my phobia of driving.
Thank you and the son, the dog and this old dude, back together in domestic bliss. Then I woke up :) Dark and foggy mornings can make you feel all cosy or "cozy" indoors. I shall snuggle up to Penny. My son would probably yell in horror!
Be well, Chris.
A peaceful, positive Sunday to you and your loved ones.
Gary
Call me outdated, but the tried and tested map NEVER fails!
ReplyDeleteSo glad to hear that the two are reunited... all's well that ends well!
Writer In Transit
Hi Michelle,
DeleteNot outdated at all. I have mapped out a route before and have been usually just fine. Besides, I have been to the airport on a number of occasions. Just take the usual route and note the exits and the roundabouts. Although, maps here in Britain, do not have clearly defined markings for the roundabouts. Thus, you can drive and end up at the mystery roundabout where none of the exit signs make any sense.
At least I found my way home and the family of three are back together. Thank you, Michelle.
A good Sunday to you.
Gary
I get appointment envy when waiting at the vet's! LOL!!! It's like "oi, me and Charlie were here first!" LOL!! Glad to hear that your health is improving!!
ReplyDeleteAwwww did Tristan have a good time? Awww Penny totally missed him!!
Take care
x
Hi Old Kitty,
DeleteGood grief, I would have thought celebrities such as Charlie and your good self, would get the preferential treatment :)
Thank you and the vet, sorry the urologist, says my tests have been getting better.
Tristan doesn't tell me much about his trip. I guess he had a good time. I do know that Penny is back to having a good time.
Have a good Sunday, y'all. LOL
Gary
x
I have a navigation system, and I still managed to get lost when I went to the airport. I'm glad that you and Penny are both doing well. It must be so nice having Tristan back home.
ReplyDeleteJulie
Hi Julie,
DeleteOh no, not good. But not as bad as the navigation system leading you to a runway. Thanks and we are all doing well. Yes, nice to have Tristan back. So happy to see him doing the most important thing after checking out Penny. Yes, a kitchen stock check! :)
Happy Sunday, Julie.
Gary
Had to laugh at "drive their children the twenty feet to the school".
ReplyDeleteHeck you could walk there in the time it took to get the kids in the car in the first place.
I'm so happy that Tristan is home and Penny is once again her old self, she must have missed him so very much.
Good to hear your condition has improved.
Hi River,
DeleteExactly! It would be much quicker to walk their kids to school.
It's all good now. Penny is happy again and my son is trying to annoy me. Yay to that! :)
Thanks and quite delighted that I'm getting better test results. Didn't even cheat :)
Enjoy the remainder of your Sunday, River.
Gary
I have nothing nice to say about GPS systems after my one attempt at using one, so I'll just say you were probably better off without it.
ReplyDeleteThat's so wonderful that Tristan is back home, that Penny's appetite has returned, and that your condition has improved. I hope the good things continue.
Hi Danielle,
DeleteAfter being in a friend's car, I also have nothing nice to say about sat-navs. Not much fun ending up heading into a canal :)
I'm blessed with some positive situations. I also pick up the ambience within the blogging community and that inspires. I'm grateful for that. Thank you.
A peaceful Sunday, your way.
Gary
Beautiful. Heartwarming. Funny.
ReplyDeleteSo glad you are well dear, And lovely Penny!
***You've arrived, darling.**(love that) ....inside my heart. xx
Hi My Inner Chick,
DeleteThank you. Thank you. Thank you :)
All is well now. The lovely Penny is grateful for your kind words and so am I.
Destination, "Lover's Lane."
A wonderful Sunday to you, my dear friend.
Gary
x
What a heartwarming post my friend. So glad that Penny and Tristan are reunited. Have a wonderful and peaceful day Gary.
ReplyDeleteKeith
Hi Keith,
DeleteThank you, kind sir. A reunion of magic and the love of dog so profoundly experienced.
A peaceful, positive Sunday to you and your loved ones, Keith.
Gary
That's wonderful to hear that Penny is her old self again.
ReplyDeleteGPS's lie. I trust my own senses when driving rather than my TomTom.
Hi Diane,
DeleteIt's so encouraging to see Penny back to being Penny and eating again.
Indeed, I don't trust TomTom :)
A great Sunday to you, Diane.
Gary
Driving to the airports even with a GPS can be challenging, but you got there and back safe and sound. Thank you for the update, this post added sunshine to my otherwise, dismal day. :) And I'm so glad Tristan is back and that Penny is her happy self once again. I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!
ReplyDeleteHi Elise,
DeleteFor sure, my friend. Just finding the airport was a bit of a relief :) The really good part is I remembered which side of the road to drive on. That helped a lot.
I'm encouraged that this update could bring some sunshine to your day that seemed to have given you some dismay. I want you to smile and remember, your dream is going to be a reality.
All is well, thank you. Tristan is yelling at his gaming friends and Penny is crashed out on the sofa. And this idiot is typing comments at three in the morning! :)
Wishing you a peaceful, hopeful Sunday, Elise.
Gary
Aww, I'm so glad Penny and her boy are back together and she is doing well again. <3
ReplyDeleteI had to laugh about the airport drive. I felt like I was reading about one of my own dreaded trips where I never find the right lot and somehow end up on a one way street heading straight to the Ohio river. I hate going to the airport!
Hi Julie Flanders,
DeleteThank you, my friend. Penny and her human brother are both well and happy. And that makes me happy and well.
Oh dear, the airport drive nightmare. I think they are poorly sign-marked. Getting to the right parking lot is a moment of triumph. Stay out of the Ohio river and the airport runway :)
Happy Sunday, Julie.
Gary
I'm so glad you weren't lost and late and caused Penny the Jack Russell dog and modest internet superstar undo stress and anxiety. Not to mention yourself. As you know, I'm a country pumpkin, so even though I was only reading along, I still had a panic attack. Good think I wasn't driving while you studied the map!
ReplyDeleteHi Joylene,
DeleteI was getting close to becoming lost. I also noted a sign that indicated "Liverpool." Yeah, go and check out the land of the Beatles. Penny the Jack Russell dog and modest internet superstar would have not been exactly pleased. I was getting very stressed. Thankfully, I can laugh at myself. I don't think any other drivers noted me laughing at myself. Probably too foggy. I would make mention to you that you were getting in the wrong side of the car. The steering wheel is on the right side. Country pumpkin, eh? Now, I'm thinking Halloween and Canadian Thanksgiving.
Have a good Sunday, eh.
Gary
You're not kidding. There's some sort of hierarchy that I've never been able to sort out.
ReplyDeleteSo glad Penny is doing better!
Hi S.P,
DeleteAppointment envy can apparently be rectified by bribing the staff :)
Thank you and Penny is much better.
Have a wonderful Sunday.
Gary
Ahhh, the scenic route. I'm glad you made your destination on time. Glad Penny is doing well.
ReplyDeleteHi Leeanna,
DeleteDelighted to meet you :) The scenic route, indeed. Although, didn't see much of the scenery. It's actually a very nice drive. Well, usually.
On time and plenty of time to wait for my son to get through Customs. Then take out a loan to pay the parking fees. Thank you and Penny is really doing well.
Have a lovely Sunday.
Gary
I have taken the long way around several times, too. I used to panic when I would get lost. Now, I am cool with it. There is an understanding that EVENTUALLY I will find myself. Ha!
ReplyDeleteI love the pictures of Penny and your son. So glad she is eating and frisky!
Hi Robin,
DeleteAh yes, the long way round. I'm like you and don't panic. Okay, I don't panic much. Recently, I took a wrong turn in the city of Stoke of Trent. I stayed very cool and eventually got to the correct road that actually got me back to my house. Be well and continue to find yourself :)
Glad you love the pictures of Penny and my son. Frisky dog who is eating a fair amount. Anything, except dog food.
Have a lovely Sunday, Robin.
Gary
I'm glad it's bright and clear for you, Gary. I'm also glad you got an "all clear" from the urologist. I know about appt envy. I think they purposely call the latest arrivals in first, just for fun. They've gotta have some fun at that job.
ReplyDeleteNo need to apologize for length of time, my friend. I'm the same, even worse...I haven't been so timely around here. I figure this way, you'll respond to my comments first. The others will get comment envy or some other weird condition.
Thirdly-ish-ly or so, I'm not so much wanting your feedback on the link (I don't even expect you to listen to the whole thing; it's long), but I'm curious to know if you can open it in the first place. No hurry, though.
Be good to yourself.
xoRobyn
Hi Robyn,
DeleteThank you and yes, it's brighter and clearer, metaphorically speaking. And yes, the results from the urologist has indicated that I'm a clearer in that department. I thought he was taking the p**s. Maybe next consultation. I believe the real reason was that not all patients in the waiting area were necessarily seeing an urologist. I'm trying to convince myself of that. Coincidentally, the waiting area reminds me of the waiting lounge of an airport.
Secondly, thank you and you understand I have this dilemma about commenting in full back to everybody as I do. I could be spending more time getting to all your sites. Of course, I commented back to you first! :) Note the comment envy...
Your link was 45 minutes and I did skip past the music at the beginning. You know I have sent you feedback over on your favourite or favorite social 'notworking' site! :) Thus, you know I managed to open your link. Did that sound right?
You take care of YOU!
A happy Chico Sunday, Robyn.
Gary :) x
Happy Pup, means happy parents...
ReplyDeleteHi Jeremy,
DeleteHappy puppy reunites with her happy human brother. Happy human dad is pleased with the outcome.
Have a good Sunday, my friend.
Gary
Awe yay! I'm glad that Penny has her friend back. ;-)
ReplyDeleteAnd thrilled that the news you got from the urologist is good.
Hi Misha,
DeleteThanks and it's a yay moment, indeed! Penny and her human brother, just a chillin' :)
It was great news from the urologist. Now for a course of antibiotics to hopefully really makes things perfectly clear.
Have a happy Sunday, Misha.
Gary
This post had me in stitches! Penny's hero worship is adorable. I'm happy you didn't end up in Upper Lower Piggy Bottom, and that your son's home, safe and sound. :-)
ReplyDeleteHi Lexa,
DeleteThe comedy knitting workshop had me in stitches! :) Penny is the adorable dog who now has her adorable human brother back. Upper Lower Piggy Bottom is a place I never want to visit.
Yes indeed, my son's home safe and making a sound of a dude screaming at his online gaming friends. Yikes!
Wishing you a peaceful Sunday, Lexa.
Gary
Lovely post my friend. Welcome Tristan. Penny is a loving, caring dog and you are a wonderful family.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing this post.
Today I received an e-mail from a literary magazine: they accepted a short story of mine about the unique relationship between a woman and a dog... I can hardly write because of my happiness.
Hi Julia,
DeleteThank you for such kind words. Tristan, Penny and this old dude. Although, not exactly the Waltons :)
My pleasure to share this.
Wow, that's wonderful news in regards to your email, Julia. Your happiness will be conveyed in the passion of your words that will be forthcoming.
Wishing you a wonderful Sunday, my friend.
Gary
Old? Here's my life philosophy.
DeleteThe older I get, the happier I am;
The older I get, the wiser I become;
The older I get, the less I care about the nonsense that people say (or think) about me.
Let's celebrate the glory of our years.
Happy Friday my friend.
Hi Julia,
DeleteIt's me, Penny. The um "old" dude is actually a correlation of his chronological age in comparison to his son's. And age is just a concept. I know of wise young humans and I know of human's older in age and not appreciating the wisdom that can be obtained from life's observations.
Julia, Gary's ideals are the same as yours. Right now, he's out on his skateboard.
Be well and have a peaceful weekend, Julia.
Penny the Jack Russell dog and modest internet superstar! :)
I do so enjoy your posts! So eloquently put :)
ReplyDeleteDelighted also that the boy and the dog (the fetching Penny and modest internet star) have been reunited yet again and thus she has regained her appetite ... yay!
Oh, and jolly good news about the urologist!
Gidday Wendy,
DeleteYou are way too kind. Thank you! :)
The boy, the dog, back together. The dog, Penny, has regained her appetite. The son never lost his appetite. There goes the pepperoni pizza!
Ah yes, the urologist. Very nice to actually see him and get the encouraging news. I thought they were about to turn out the lights and go home :)
Have a delightful rest of your weekend, Wendy.
Gary
Our canine companions are more sensitive than we realize. Our border collie pup did the same thing when Grandma watched her during our extended vacation. Poor thing didn't eat much and kept looking for us outside. She's back to her normal self too, like Penny--when her "people" returned, she was back to eating, playing and chewing base boards:) Glad you're family is together again:)
ReplyDeleteHi Samantha,
DeleteWe sure become acutely aware of their sensitivity during such times. I was really pleased to know that your border collie pup has returned to her normal self now that her wayward family has returned from vacation. Must have been slightly worrying for poor Grandma when your pup was not eating much. Thankfully, well mostly thankfully, she's back to eating most foods she should be eating. Playful pups. Such a joy.
Glad both our families are back together :)
Happy Sunday, Samantha.
Gary
Hi Gary,
ReplyDeleteI'm glad to hear that your little trip to the airport went OK, and that your condition has improved. Most of all, though, I guess you're happiest about Tristan's return and the effect this has had on Penny. It's great that she's back to her normal self now that her full family is back together. Kind of warms yer cockles, don't it.
Very Best Wishes,
David.
Hi David,
DeleteThank you, good sir. The airport trip was rather harrowing, but managed to somehow get there and back. Yes, my condition has improved. I was relieved and a bit surprised. I'm happy that my son is back and that Penny is back to her usual chipper self. Not so happy about him yelling at his computer games. Oh my.
Indeed, this story kinda' makes me all warm and fuzzy wuzzy.
Enjoy your Sunday and try to stay awake!
Gary
Aloha from Amsterdam, Meneer Gazza:)
ReplyDeleteDude, at least you didn't end up in the Hotel California... I've heard that they let you in there, but you can never, never leave:)
PS: Great to hear your son made it home safely - the crap driving of his old man notwithstanding :)~
PPS: Haven't made it to Amsterdam yet - but keep an eye on Twitter Monday or Tuesday ;)
Groeten uit Leek, Engeland, Mark,
DeleteWelcome to the Hotel California. Such a lovely place...Actually, is this the way to Amarillo? By the time I get to Phoenix, you will be in Amsterdam. Good people of Amsterdam, you have been warned! :)
Thank you, good sir. He is home safely and back to aggravating me. Yay n'stuff! Okay, so I have to remember which side of the road to drive on.
I have seen you and delighted you with my witty rapport on Twitter. It was good to note you on there. I'm thrilled to know you are dangerously close to us. I'm sure a certain lovely lady in France is equally thrilled to know you are both now on the same continental mass. What a result!
Enjoy your Sunday and don't go eating your wooden shoes.
Gary :)
I recently got lost driving back from a fair. My mistake added about 2 hours to my drive. It was sort of funny for me at the time because when I realized I missed my turn I wasn't concerned. Unfortunately- the next chance to turn around was 50 miles. Lesson learned! At least at the point I made my mistake. :) Sounds like the two of us shouldn't drive together (I don't have GPS either).
ReplyDeleteGlad your son is home safe. Penny must be ecstatic!
Have a great day!
Jess
Hi Jess,
DeleteYou added a fair amount to your driving distance. Good heavens. We do try to laugh about such things. Luckily, if you can figure out the names on the exits, roundabouts can be handy to get you back in the correct direction. An extra fifty miles in Britain would be a fortune in gasoline aka petrol.. Just think of the fun we could have listening to some famous voice telling us where to go on a GPS! :)
Thank you and Penny has been doing her special dance on the carpet.
Wishing you a great Sunday.
Gary
Oh how I hate round-abouts. Our airport is 1.5 hours away on a good day. Of course, with all the flooding in CO this week, I have no idea if I could even make it there...
ReplyDeleteGlad you arrived safely, despite the repeated need to head for Gatley, was it? Also SUPER glad that Penny and Tristan are reunited once again. Happy family.
Appointment envy...have experienced that many, many times. Glad you got good news!
Your ever adoring and loyal fan,
Tina @ Life is Good
Hi Tina,
DeleteAh yes and I remember being at a roundabout when I was over in British Columbia. A rather new thing and my Canadian friends seem to hate them, also. We have been keeping up with the flooding news from Colorado. Seen the photos from Boulder. Most worrying and I hope all is okay where you guys reside.
Yes, Gatley and then I would be in downtown Manchester, or even Liverpool! Happy family times. Penny and Tristan are doing fine.
Appointment envy does make you very frustrated and can be a little worrying. Have you been forgotten, you might start thinking. Thank you, Tina, life is good :)
Wishing you a settled weekend.
Gary
And that's why I try to never leave home. Home is where Beau is, and that's a fact.
ReplyDeleteOh, I meant to say "Joe"....uh....yes. Yes I did. Look away....I'm leaving now.
Hi Dana,
DeleteI do understand. It takes a lot of courage, doesn't it. When you have the anxiety of challenging the reclusive state, it can take every fibre of your being to work through the panic of it all. I have to challenge it on my own and it can be hell.
Beau and Joe and your good self. Home together and staying strong.
Thank you, my friend.
Wishing you a peaceful Sunday.
Gary
What a very cute story. Yes, I'm one of those who loves GPSes, but then I'm one who, if there is a wrong way to go, I'll generally take it. :)
ReplyDeleteGlad your son made it home safe and sound and had an amazing reunion with Peggy. A happy, normal family indeed...
Writer’s Mark
Hi Nancy,
DeleteThank you and it's gosh darn cute :) Ah, the GPS probably likes to get us confused. Take that exit and don't worry about going the wrong way up a one-way street...
It is nice to have my son back and see Penny finally being her usual lively self. Complete with her mouth in her dog dish.
Happy, peaceful extra weekend wishes to you, Nancy.
Gary
I knew I should have done a fact check... Penny not Peggy! Guess I owe her some more doggie treats. :)
DeleteHey Nancy,
DeleteNo worries, my friend. Peggy 'Sue' got married :) Penny is grateful for more doggie treats. That's an encouraging sign. Thank you, Nancy.
Gary :)
Hi Gary - having been in the west country in soggy conditions, and misty dark mornings, or late evenings - I can understand the fogging of brains ... so easy to get lost or in my case by not concentrating and just being off track ...
ReplyDelete... wonderful to read Penny's reaction to Tristan's return and that lightness prevails once again ...
On the way back at Chichester where the Goodwood Revival weekend is going on ... there were notices up "DO NOT USE SAT NAV"!!!!!!! Just follow your sticker signs .. I was glad to dash past before I got caught in traffic jams ..
Cheers and have a peaceful weekend ... Hilary
Hi Hilary,
DeleteYou have been very busy. You seem to be forever on a Hilary tour of England. I think my brain fog had a head start. It's the mystery roundabouts that get me puzzled. You expect to see the continuation name of your ongoing destination. Suddenly, you get the names and road numbers that mean nothing, except to the locals.
It was a awe gosh situation between the two of them. Clearer and brighter, metaphorically speaking.
Aha, the Goodwood Revival weekend. Makes sense to follow sticker signs. After all, it recalls those days before Sat-nav.
Wishing you a happy remainder of Sunday, Hilary.
Gary
That looks like a scene from a murder movie. Glad you arrived safely!
ReplyDeleteHi Sherry,
DeleteIt certainly does. And a certain "Sherlock Hound" will unravel the mystery. Thank you and a safe arrival is always good :)
Have a happy Georgia Sunday, Sherry.
Gary
I8'm a bit late with this. One day I'll say that and will actually have already left a comment, so feel free to point and laugh when that happens. It's all good news then! I'm so pleased, pleased you managed to get to your destination at Manchester Airposrt because actually the signs and roads are fiendishly tricky, pleased you're health is on the up wee-wise, and also thrilled that Penny and her boy are re-united and equilibrium reigns once more. That very morning I cycled along Bury's cycle path at half seven through the fog and was utterly defeated by the damp, so ended up turning abck after a mere twenty minutes. Still, better to try and fail than never try at all eh? That's bollocks actually. Failing is rubbish. Hahahaha. :p
ReplyDeleteHi Michelle,
DeleteJust rereading your other comment on this posting! Hee hee!
It's all good, thank you. Although, yep, Manchester airport became a place of mystery, this time. Indeed, the urologist has indicated that I'm improving. The young dude and his dawg are playing happy families :) They get along and the young dude does his best to annoy me. Yay!
That was you? You gave it your best shot. Of course, if you tried, you haven't failed. Yes, I can talk a load of bollocks and still be the dog's bollocks!
Thank you and on your bike, Michelle.
Gary :)
So sorry I'm late on my visitations, but am so happy to get caught up on Penny and that she is once again a happy and peppy doggy. Yay! Hope you enjoy your time with you son. Glad to hear your dr. appointment went well too.
ReplyDeleteHi Julie,
DeleteNever you worry about the time it took you to grace me with one of your wondrous visitations :) I'm glad to see you here. It's all rockin' and rollin'. Penny is cool. The dude is happy to be back with Penny. I try to enjoy my time with my son. He tells me I'm not funny. He's probably right. Thank you and I was rather surprised at my encouraging improvement.
Gary
Hi, Gary... thank you for stopping by my place...
ReplyDeleteI thought your comment you left for Middle Life Child was one of the funniest few lines I've ever read... HAR!!!
In looking through your followers' comments, I see some familiar names... I am sure I will like it here!!!
Re: my comment about us being in the same clown car... I'm thinking we are close to the same age... HA!!!
Have a great day... I've got some reading here I need to do!!!
~shoes~
Hey Shoes of Red,
DeleteA pleasure to drop by your zany place dude.
I'm really flattered you thought my comment on her site was funny. I do try :)
Aha, we know some of the same incredible folks. The circles within circles in the circle game. We have fun here. The comments are better than the postings.
Yes, we were in the same clown car. Think it was a 1965 Chevrolet Corvair.
A great day to you, good sir.
Gary :)
Nice post.
ReplyDeleteGood comments.
Following.
xoRobyn
PS Love ya, Gary. Thanks for always making me laugh.
Hi Robyn,
DeleteGreat comment!
Great commenters!
Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for following!
It heartens me to know I can make you laugh. And do you ever deserve a laugh :)
Love n'stuff to you,
Gary :) x
Love the new blog header Gary - but I do miss the beach. Ah well.
ReplyDeleteI tease my family that I could get lost in a paper bag with map and pair of scissors and never find my way out. You know, I've driven around tunnels cuz I get a weird feeling from them. Even the most familiar drive can look scary in fog and bad weather. Or the dark.
Maybe your son has cheered Penny up. I'm sure his arrival made you happy too.
......dhole
Hi Donna,
DeleteThank you and I shall eventually bring back the beach or something similar to that beach scene :)
Ah yes, the getting lost in a paper bag trick. Even with supplies and a map, no luck. I understand about tunnels. I'm surprised I didn't end up going through a tunnel. A train tunnel. Indeed, in foggy and dark conditions, a familiar drive can be most unfamiliar.
Penny and my son are now cheerful, thank you. As for me, well yeah, I'm sort of happy he's home :)
A peaceful week ahead to you, Donna.
Gary
Yay for bright and clear! Love the analogy here with the weather and your son and Penny. And I'm so glad that things are looking good medically. (And yeah... what is up with some people getting called back so quickly? Grrrr...)
ReplyDeleteI'm SO GLAD you gave us an update, Gary. Poor little Penny. And YAY for her appetite being back.
I actually LOVE that eerie picture. I love dark and haunting. It speaks to my soul!
Hi Morgan,
DeleteI'm delighted you liked my analogy. Of course, I only recently found out that "analogy" was not the scientific study of a**holes! :) My medical condition seems have gotten better. As for my mind....well...
I'm glad that you're glad that I posted an update. Penny is way better and eating again. My son is his usual smart ass self! Yay!
It seems I might have took that photo for your good self.
Gary
:D (!!!!)
Delete(Exclamation points for emphasis of my smiling face)
Morgan!!!!
Delete:)!!!!
LOL! See, you've converted me to go back and revisit blogs... this is something I've never done. But now that I know how entertaining conversation can be... (If !!! are considered conversation ;))
DeleteMorgan!
DeleteI subscribe to follow email comments to most blogs. The exception would be those blogs that release all the comments at once. I don't subscribe to them because some of them would make my email account blow up.
I immensely enjoy the interaction within the comments. I think the comments are better than my posting.
Gary :)
Awwww. Penny missed your son, how sweet.... but not eating properly could cause her problems. I am also glad to hear your condition has cleared up. Good news!!!
ReplyDeleteI try really hard never to drive on foggy mornings like that... I know you didn't have a choice, but now your sun is home...
Bright skies!
Hi Terry,
DeletePenny and my son and a sweet reunion. Luckily and with some help from the vet, her appetite has returned. Thank you and I have been given a positive report.
I dreaded that drive through the fog. And signs would just sort of sneak up on me. Very weird having a sign sneak up on you :)
Thank you, Terry.
Gary
So glad your son is home and Penny is eating again and your condition is improving! So much good news! Enjoy your time together :)
ReplyDeleteAnd I feel your pain over following signs ... I never see the right one!!
Hey Jemi,
DeleteThank you for that. My son is home and raiding the fridge. Penny is happy and eating again and my son is still raiding the fridge.. My condition seems to be getting better. Now for an IQ test...
You should see our mystery roundabouts. Oh yeah, you are starting to get roundabouts in Canada. Yikes and enjoy, eh!
Gary :)
Oh, how brilliant Gary. Tristan is back and I'm glad Penny will be back to herself again. Hope you've got the food in, because she's gonna be eating like a 'pig' now, if you know what I mean. And to avoid this happening again, Penny needs to be booked on the next trip :)
ReplyDeleteGood news all round then. Nice to hear you're condition is getting better too. As for the appointment envy. I've found out that when I go for certain appointments, the hospital books two people at the same time in case one person is a 'no show'. That's what I call cheeky, and it explains why I sometimes have to wait so long to be seen and constantly see others going in before me.
Hi Rum-Punch Drunk,
DeleteThank you for that, my good friend. She has been eating so much better since her human brother's return. She will be flying with him on Blog Air. She will be the pawlet :)
Indeed, I've been told my condition has improved. Aha, you may be onto something there. Next time, I shall send my rented clone to go on my behalf. Don't think my rented clone suffers from appointment envy.
A good week to you.
Gary
Hello? Anybody home??
ReplyDeletePawsitive wishes for that appetite to be first rate! And for your family to be together.
Wait...I thought this was a post on weather...U trickedd me!!! Touché Gary touché.
Hello! Is that you, tam-bare? Gosh and giggle!
DeleteThank you and Penny's consumption of food has been a pawsitive outcome. Yep, it's like the Walton's here. Or, maybe not...
This post was about you having a whirlwind romance with Dorothy :)
Thank you, Tammy.
Gary
Yay for happy reunions!!!!! And good reports from doctors!!!!!
ReplyDeleteAs for the trip....this is why my husband drives us most places. I don't do big cities or places I've never been. I would have been crying and yelling and losing my mind :))
Hi The Words Crafter,
DeleteThank you for that. Pawsitive news and good news followed :)
What I personally find the biggest challenge is driving a lot on my own. If somebody had been with me on the trip there, we could of had a good laugh. I share your driving pain, my friend.
Gary
I got lost on my way here. It was a dark and bloggy morning. Had to make a mind map. Then I had to make another to get to the bottom of over a million comments. Aren't you the popular fellow?
ReplyDeleteHow am I expected to drive the streets of Leek (on the left hand side of the road, no less) if its own residents can't even get around?
M.L. Swift, Writer
Greetings Michael,
DeleteVery good. I like how you think outside the blog. A mind map without some silly GPS chatting away in the background is probably best. Actually, the comment section is slightly misleading. Divide by two and basically you get the total. Like you, I try to comment back to each person. Add the personal touch.
Leek is expecting your imminent arrival. I shall have my limo driver take over and drive you directly to the top secret parade in your honour or "honor' :)
Thank you for getting unlost.
Gary
