Flame Academy.

I've noted that in my previous posting that the lady holding the Olympic Torch, Rhian Morley, very kindly left a comment.  I am most grateful for her doing so.
So to set the record straight in regards to the flame being extinguished and nothing to do with flatulence, here is the video of Rhian as a torch-bearer.  Once again, well done Rhian and may the true spirit and ideals of the Olympic Games, bring forth some positivity to our beleaguered world.

  1. What an honour....something to remember her whole life and to tell her grandchildren about. And we knew it wasn't flatulence that was the problem..really...

    1. Hi Delores,
Indeed and I know how proud and honoured she has been because of such a memorable experience.
Yeah, we knew that flatulence had nothing to do with the extinguished flame....

  2. Talk about the thrill of a lifetime! How wonderful for Rhian. Very good thought, indeed, about the spirit of the games and some positivity! (I absolutely loved when she started skipping!)

    1. Hi Kim,
For sure. I think I would have liked to have run with the Torch. I guess I could pretend and run along the streets with a cigarette lighter!
A bit of positivity and hopefully the ideals of the games can transcend outwards towards a more understanding, tolerant world. That skipping part was really a joy to behold :)

  3. It must be wonderful to be included in the festivities at the games. Too bad she didn't get to light the big torch at the Olympic Games ... I was kinda hopin' so! They must save that homor for the competitors.

    1. Hi Jackie,
It sure must be wonderful to be included in the festivities. I awaited my call to carry the Torch. Strangely enough, I never received that call! :)
I suppose it will be one of the competitors. I have no idea who is going to light the flame in the Olympic stadium.
      Take care :)

  4. So I popped back to the last post to see what Rhian wrote, to discover that, among her many other fine attributes, she has a great sense of humor. There are not even six degrees of separation in this world, are there?

    1. Hi Susan,
I was delighted she found out about the previous posting. Was actually going to try and contact her to let her know. Thus it was wonderful to note Rhian's comment on the last posting and her good natured sense of humour shone through, much like the flame on the Torch.
It's a small world and via the positive aspects of the internet, it grows smaller and we are learning so much from each other :)
      Thanks, Susan.

  5. Thanks for posting this Gary. I have learned how the flame is passed from torch to torch now! It's a real once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for Rhian. There are about 48 days to go so we will have to wait until it arrives near where I am - about four or five miles from the Olympic Park.

    1. Hi bazza,
My honour to post it up. Me too, I for some reason, thought they only used the one Torch. Of course, now we know better. Rhian has a treasured memory to share for the rest of her life.
Wow, you are right in the heart of the event. I reckon you have a seat in the stadium amongst all the other celebrities!

  6. How lovely. I adored her little skip towards the end. She waves better than the Queen, and the Queen doesn't make me get misty eyed either.

Wasn't that a wonderful and inspiring video. She smiles better than the Queen. And the Queen hardly stirs any emotion in me.

  7. Hello Gary:
The Olympic Games themselves are not, as you might well expect, entirely our thing. However, we support totally and fully the spirit of them as indeed we do anything which brings people together in peace and friendship.

    1. Hello Jane and Lance,
Actually, I'm not that bothered about the Games. However, just like you, I like to think of the Games as a positive worldwide celebration. The ideals of the Olympics are what we should strive for in rejoicing the diversity of mankind.
Indeed this was more than anything, a human interest story.
Oh, do tell, how is the weather where you live?

    3. Thank you Jane and Lance for that weather update. Of course, when you note, "We are continually informed how dismal it is with you. Not good!!" That would be a reference to the not so great British weather and not my own personal state of affairs!
And also seriously, just like you, 'hit counts' are of little interest to me. After five years of this blog, the positive interaction is a most wondrous result. I am honoured to know you both. And no, I wont ask a follow up question :)

  10. I love the small town feel of the watching on lookers. Running and waving did seem to be an awkward combination and understandably slowed to a walk. A beautiful woman and a moment of fame etched in history.

  14. Wow, Gary. It's very kind and generous, sharing your blog to showcase a torch bearer. I also did not know that more then one torch was used. I feel a historical hot flash approaching. Be still my flaming heart!
I hope you get the chance to do some photos of the venues, athletes, or competition. You seem to 'capture' moments and treasures other photographers miss. Good thoughts to you,

    1. Hi Dixie,
It was my honour to share such a magical event. It all started with me finding out my good buddy, Stephen, had stood beside Rhian as she posed with her own personal extinguished Olympic Torch. And yes, the video made it clearer as to what actually happens. Fan the flames in the flame of love.
It would be very cool, or hot, if I had some more opportunities to 'capture' some more memorable moments. Or to quote that song, 'Flame!'....I want to live forever...' :) Thank you, Dixie. Peaceful wishes, your way, Gary

  15. Wow! That's a lot of running. If it were me, I would be hobbling on my heel-spurred, malformed feet at a snail's crawl. But I'd make it worth my while at the end by extinguishing the flame up the Queen's anus, in respect to her ultra-amazing Diamond Jubilee or Royal orgy or whatever the heck that was last week. As I pop the torch up her bum, they could have fireworks go off in the background as Paul and Elton sing "God Save The Queen."

    1. Hi Kelly,
That's a lot of running and demonstrating some really inspirational vibes. If you were a torch-bearer, you would get huge applause for your noteworthy effort.
That would be quite a royal 'end' you propose. Of course, she has been on the 'throne' for over sixty years and you might have to lodge her off the seat before placing said flame in said location.
You forgot one more famous singing institution by the name of Sir Cliff Richard. Yep, Cliff, who was England's answer to good ol' Elvis Presley! Ah uh!
If you ever make it to London, my friend, stay well clear of the Tower of London! :)

  19. Dear Gary,
Apologies for commenting a little late this time. It's great that Rhian has taken the time to comment herself, though, as she must have been busy keeping the flame alive, so to speak. And, yes, it will be nice if the Olympics bring a little spark of poditivity into our world.
